CM in Delhi today, likely to discuss Cabinet expansion

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai will be in New Delhi on Tuesday and Wednesday to hold discussions with the central leadership of the BJP on various issues, including a likely State Cabinet reshuffle/expansion.

The Chief Minister’s Office confirmed Mr. Bommai’s trip to the national capital on Tuesday and said that he was to meet Union Ministers for discussing State-related projects. During the meeting, the Chief Minister is expected to take up discussions on water resources projects, including Mekedatu, a proposed balancing reservoir across the river Cauvery in the State.

Mr. Bommai, who has not been revealing much on the possible Cabinet revamp, is expected to take up the Ministry revamp/expansion issue with Central leaders of the party during his two-day visit.

The State Cabinet has four vacancies against a full strength of 34 Ministers. Several legislators have been aspiring for Cabinet berths as a last opportunity before next year’s elections to the State Assembly.

Mr. Bommai is also expected to meet lawyers representing the State in inter-State water disputes. Cases related to river disputes, involving Karnataka, are pending before the Supreme Court.
