Clyde interim boss Allan Moore says he will take the job full-time if it is offered to him, following a heart-to-heart with outgoing manager Danny Lennon.
Lennon and Moore have been at the helm of the Bully Wee together for five years, but a run of nine straight defeats resulted in lennon being placed on paid authorised absence, before the club parted company with him last week.
Moore has taken the team for the last two games, resulting in that record being stretched to 11 games, with a 2-1 defeat at Alloa last weekend and a 1-0 loss at home to Airdrie – with both clinchers coming late on.
The 57-year-old has been in charge of Stirling Albion, Morton and Arbroath and says he has the experience to take this on, too.
Moore said: “I’ve spoke to Danny, who is a friend, and he has said if they offer it to me, definitely take it.
“At the end of the day, I’ve been a good manager before – without being big headed I’ve ran teams and I’ve got a bit of experience.
“At this moment in time I’m the interim. If somebody else comes in, or they want somebody else to come in, I’ll walk away with my head held high.
“Myself and Danny had a great five years here, and it has gone a wee bit pear-shaped this season, but we still believed we could turn it around.
“I’m not daft enough to not know that the fans are the ones that pay your wages, so they have every right to say what they want to say.
“But I felt they were behind us today for the whole 90 minutes, and that’s all you can ask for.”
Moore didn’t make excuses for the run Clyde have been on, but says his side were unlucky, as Lewis Jamieson’s 78th-minute penalty rebound saw the points head back to North Lanarkshire.
“It’s a terrible run,” he said. “I’m not going to shy away from that.
“But we deserved more than that. There was nothing in the game for both teams.
“I think the only save our keeper had to make was the penalty, and unfortunately for us it went back into play and wee LJ was as sharp as a tack to get in on the end of it.
“I honestly didn’t see Airdrie scoring.
“In the last two games we’ve showed a little bit of determination and grit, but it’s little things like that, that are happening to us.
“Last week we conceded a goal in the 93rd minute, last kick of the ball.
“We just need to try and pick a point up at a time, and that’s another one that’s slipped away.
“But what I will say – and I’ve been in the game long enough – is when boys give you that amount of effort and determination, I’m very optimistic going forward, whether it’s myself or somebody else.
“Those boys have put a shift in.”
