Clyde are hurting, but we have to try and make it worse, says Airdrie star

Airdrie defender Craig Watson admits he has some sympathy for Clyde’s 10-game losing streak in League One – but that won’t stop him from trying to heap more misery on them.

The Bully Wee’s unenviable run has left them second-bottom in the table, and led to them sacking boss Danny Lennon a week after placing him on ‘paid authorised absence’, with assistant Allan Moore in charge, at least temporarily.

Having bagged their first league win in six attempts by beating Montrose 4-0 – with Watson on the score-sheet – he has an idea how Clyde will be hurting.

But he says Airdrie have to look after themselves as they bid to climb the table.

Watson said: “We know how we felt over the past month when we’ve not been getting results, and it just keeps on building your hunger.

“They’ll be desperate to get a result, but we’ve got to look after number one, make sure that doesn’t happen, and that the three points come to us.”

Former Hamilton Accies star Watson admits it will be good to head back to New Douglas Park, where Clyde are based temporarily this season as they look for their own ground.

He said: “I’m back at New Douglas Park – I’ve not been there in a good few years!

“It will be good, it’s a nice surface to pass the ball around on, so we’ll just look to build on it and get back to where we know we can be.

“Three points would help us to move further up the table, but I tend not to look at that, to be honest – I just want to win each game.

“I think you can get too caught up in ‘how many points have we got this quarter’, ‘what position are we’ and all the ifs and buts of the league.

“I think if you just concentrate on the tasks in hand, and take every game each weekend, and just focus on the win, that’s the main thing.”
