Clyde 1's Cassi Gillespie slams fake Facebook scammers pretending to be her

Radio Clyde DJ Cassi Gillespie has hit out at scammers for posing as her and trying to con people out of money online. The Clyde 1 breakfast co-host had to make a social media announcement warning her followers not to fall for the scam.

A fake Facebook profile has been set up using her pictures and telling people they have won various competitions. But Cassi says this isn't the first time it has happened and just in the last few weeks, around six profiles have been created using her content.

Sharing snaps of the fake profile, Cassi wrote: "I can’t believe I’m having to put this up as a grid post now. There have been around 6 profiles made up over the last few weeks pretending to be me on Facebook asking people for credit card details.

She said that her employers are trying to get the pages taken down. She added: "Clyde have been trying to get them removed within 24 hours after they are made however, they have stooped to a new low and commented under someone’s post who is ill and my full name and profile is attached to it."

She added: "It’s not on. They have been taking my Instagram pictures and going to new levels to really try and scam people. I’m guessing I’m being targeted as I don’t have a Facebook page and they know that the public may fall for it thinking I’ve made one.

"It’s out with my control just now and very frustrating but all I would ask you to do is stay clear and screen shot this post if you see any friends and family who you think might be targeted by this absolute weapon."

Cassi said she even reached out to the page from her friend's profile but she was also blocked. She wrote: "I sent them a scathing message through my friends page but they blocked her. I will continue to attempt on getting them removed. Thanks for reading x."

And many of her followers flocked to the comments to say that they had reported the page. One wrote: "That’s absolutely disgusting, I reported one of the profile and FB response we will not remove it as it doesn’t go against any of our standards."

Another added: "Hope you get this sorted I’ve seen so many people getting fake profiles made recently in insta but this is a new low! Sending my love honey." While one said: "Hopefully you can get it sorted disgusting behaviour of scammers. X."

Cassi isn't the only Scots celeb this has happened to as her pal, Outlander's Sam Heughan, is targeted by scammers frequently. One woman actually parted with thousands of pounds after being conned into thinking she was in a relationship with the actor.

Stephanie, a 56-year-old nurse from Florida, handed over £36,500 after believing she had been in an online relationship with Heughan since 2018. She said: “When this happens to you it’s not only humiliating and embarrassing. “It has exacerbated depression and anxiety which I fight daily. “A warning for only 24 hours is not enough.”

Anna, from New York was also duped into sending £34,000 after being told the money would be invested in Heughan’s whisky brand. She added: “This keeps happening and women keep falling for it. His post should not be temporary so it reaches more people.”
