Clown-only screenings of It Chapter 2 announced by US cinema chain

If you suffer from coulrophobia, you're probably going to want to stay away from Alamo Drafthouse in September.

The US cinema chain will host a series of "clowns-only" screenings of It Chapter Two at 17 of its locations – a huge upgrade from the two it hosted in 2017.

Whether you're a professional clown or just want to kit up as one in celebration of the Stephen King adaptation, ticket buyers are "encouraged" to "sit through this coulrophobia-inducing frightfest with a theatre full of fellow clowns".

Alamo Drafthouse – primarily based in Austin, Texas – have previously hosted special screenings for other films in the past, most notably a female-only showing of Patty Jenkins film Wonder Woman.

Be warned: should you wish to dress up in oversized trousers and make-up, you'll have to sit there for an epic two hours and 45 minutes; director Andy Muschetti announced this was the film's running time earlier this week.

It fans in London won't be missing out on all the fun. This week saw the announcement of an underground event that'll see Waterloo's Vaults transformed into the town of Derry with participants coming face-to-face with Pennywise himself.

It: Chapter Two stars Bill Skarsgård alongside Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy and Bill Hader. It's released in the UK on 6 September.
