Cloudy skies and the odd shower expected for Easter bank holiday weekend in Newcastle

Any hopes of a sunny spring tipple on the Toon this bank holiday have been pretty much put to bed early, with experts at the Met Office expecting cloud and rain across the four-day weekend.

While many had hopes of a heatwave across April's second weekend, forecasters anticipate that Newcastle and its surrounding areas will be overcast with clouds for the most part and tepid temperatures to match.

Saturday's forecast looks to be cloudy for the most part, with some sunny intervals showing by late afternoon. Temperatures between 10C and 5C are expected.

Easter Sunday follows suit, with overcast skies kicking the day off before they fade to white by mid-morning. It's expected to be cloudy for the rest of the day, with highs of 12C and lows of 8C.

Easter Monday is when the experts expect the worst of the bank holiday weather to land however, with heavy rain from the off. This will ease slightly to light showers in the afternoon, before the clouds return overnight. There will be highs of 11C, lows of 6C.

For Saturday the Met Office say: "Early low cloud, mist or fog patches will lift and break through the morning to allow sunny spells for most. Generally dry, just the outside chance of a light shower. Maximum temperature 13°C."

The outlook from Sunday to Tuesday (April 11), is: "Sunday, generally dry with bright or sunny spells and a freshening breeze. Monday, early rain clearing to sunny spells and scattered blustery showers. Probably turning wet and windy later Tuesday."
