Clouds of smoke seen overhead as crews tackle fire at derelict building in Stockport

Clouds of smoke were seen overhead in Stockport on Tuesday evening (September 20) after a fire started in a derelict building. Fire crews raced to the scene of the blaze on Greek Street, shortly after 5.30pm.

Five fire engines attended the scene as Greek Street, off Wellington Road South, was blocked off as crews dampened the flames. It has not been confirmed if there were any reported casualties.

Video footage submitted to the MEN shows clouds of smoke escaping from the roof of the building, with sirens heard in the distance as emergency services attended the scene.

“The crews arrived quickly at the scene. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatuses are using two hose reels, jets, positive pressure ventilation and other specialist equipment to extinguish the fire.”

“Firefighters have been in attendance for around an hour and are still at the scene.”
