FOUR people have been taken to hospital and 22 evacuated from a tenement building in Uddingston after a fire.
The road is currently closed and a cordon is in place while crews put out the fire.
Footage shared with the Glasgow Times showed smoke coming out of the window of the top-floor flat on Deanbrae Street on Wednesday.
Fire crews can be seen at the scene running in and out of the building, and more smoke billows out from the roof.
A height appliance was pictured over the building.
Police confirmed that residents have been evacuated and that the road is closed while emergency services deal with the fire.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed 22 people living in the building were evacuated while four people were taken to hospital.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 8.53am on Wednesday, June 26 to reports of a dwelling fire at Deanbrae Street, Uddingston.
“Operations Control mobilised four fire appliances and a height appliance where crews extinguished a fire affecting a property on the second floor of a two-storey tenement building.
“Crews safety evacuated 22 people from the building. Four casualties were passed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service and transferred to University Hospital Monklands.
“We remain at the scene to dampen down any remaining hotspots.”
Those who are impacted can seek help from West of Scotland Housing Association at Park Church on Main Street.
A spokesperson said: "Officers are assisting Scottish Fire and Rescue Service colleagues at the scene of a fire on Deanbrae Street, Uddingston.
The fire was reported at a property around 9.15am this morning (Wednesday, June 26, 2024).
"Two people were conveyed to hospital as a precaution for smoke-related injuries.
"A number of residents have been evacuated and refreshments are being provided at Park Church, Main Street, where representatives from West of Scotland Housing Association can assist those impacted.
"Deanbrae Street remains closed at its junctions with Crofthead Street and Watson Street, and motorists are advised to avoid the area."
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 09:07 to attend an incident on Deanbrae Street, Uddingston, Glasgow.
"Two ambulances, a paramedic response unit and two special operation response teams (SORT) were dispatched to the scene.
"Four patients were transported to University Hospital Monklands.”
