As the 2025 election fever kicks up, billionaire Clive Palmer has re-entered the political race with a new party that is aiming to “drain the swamp” in Canberra and “Make Australia Great Again”.
Trumpets of Patriots (yes, that’s the name) was unveiled to a room packed with journalists at Parliament House on Wednesday and will be chaired by Palmer.
Its policy platform will include banning trans athletes, reducing immigration, and rescinding Kevin Rudd’s position as Australia’s ambassador to the US, as reported by news.com.au.

Palmer indicated the party “believes in the policies of Donald Trump” which he said have “shown to be effective in bringing management back on track”.
“Peter Dutton has stated he’s no Donald Trump, and we agree with him. Albanese presided over declining standard of living for our country in each and every year he served as prime minister,” Palmer told reporters.
“Australia needs Trump policies. Australians want them.”
It’s understood Trumpet of Patriots will aim to run candidates across all 150 electorates and senate seats.
Palmer also announced the party had an “outstanding” prime ministerial candidate in Suellen Wrightson standing for the seat of Hunter in the House of Representatives.
“She is an excellent real-world leader. The Trumpet of Patriots is running candidates in all Liberal and Teal seats, as well as the upper house, to be a force in Australian politics,” he said.
“The Australian people deserve real representation, and we will ensure they have that choice at the polls.”

Wrightson agreed the party “is in the election to win” and “will reform the political process in this country to protect and defend our democracy.”
“I want to invite the 82,000 members of the United Australia Party and all political parties to join our party to support me and our team,” she said.
You might recall the mining magnate lost his High Court bid to re-register his prior United Australia Party (UAP) ahead of the 2025 federal election.
The UAP was voluntarily deregistered after the last federal election and with this, the party’s candidates will not be identified with the UAP on ballot papers for the House of Representatives and the Senate.
Meanwhile the Trumpet of Patriots party was registered (under a different name) back in 2011 before changing to its existing moniker last year.
As reported by the Guardian, the process to register a new party or change the name of an existing one can take several months, meaning that assuming control of a registered brand would have been Palmer’s only realistic option if he wanted to run candidates under a party banner in the coming poll.

It’s understood Palmer was also in talks with One Nation’s Pauline Hanson towards attempts to unify their parties to avoid cannibalising votes. However, per the ABC, talks fell apart over disagreements about who should lead and bankroll their hoped-for singular right-wing populist movement.
Regarding his new party, Palmer committed to spending “whatever is required” to win seats for the party at the upcoming federal election.
In the 2022 election, the billionaire spent over $120 million to win just one seat, which was Victorian Ralph Babet’s spot in the Senate.
Since Palmer’s announcement yesterday, it’s been a mixed reception so far on social media.
So it looks like we might be seeing a lot more of the billionaire as the election race heats up.
Can’t wait to see how this all unfolds.
