Clive Myrie praises colleague Huw Edwards' 'stunning' new physique after fitness drive

Newsreader Clive Myrie has praised Huw Edwards’ new physique after he upped his workouts to get in shape for the Coronation.

Myrie said he was in awe of his 61-year-old colleague, right, who will help front today’s coverage for the BBC.

He said of Huw’s programme of weight training and boxing: “He looks gorgeous. He’s amazing. What a body, what a build.

“Those biceps are incredible. And the sexy Welsh lilt. Oh my God, it’s stunning. There you go. I love the guy.”

Myrie also insisted he was in top condition. Asked about his Italian Road Trip show, which began this week on BBC2, and the risks of over-eating rich food, he said: “No, my washboard is still here. You can wash your flannels, on it .”

Edwards shed three stone in 2019 in a fitness blitz but recently said the weight had crept back on. He explained: “I am going to have to lose a stone, no question. I am just a bit too tight around the waist.

“So maybe my boxing workouts will now have to go up to two a week.” In Clive Myrie’s Italian Road Trip, Myrie travels to famous destinations including Rome, Barga and Sicily’s Mount Etna volcano.

Along the way he tastes all the local delicacies - but says he avoided putting on any bulk. Myrie, 58, added: “Brits tend to pile on chips and pie.

“In Italy you have different plates, and two or three different courses and they are all quite light.

“There is no reason why you should come out looking like a lump of lard eating Italian food. My favourite was anchovies covered in egg and fried.” All episodes are on BBC iPlayer.
