Clip of Meghan Markle curtseying in Suits role goes viral after 'mocking' backlash

A clip of Meghan Markle curtsying for an acting role has resurfaced online and got everyone talking once again.

In one scene from the popular legal drama Suits, Meghan - who played Rachel Zane in the series - curtsyed for her on-screen character's colleague.

The historic clip has resurfaced on social media over recent days, thanks to the ongoing drama connected to Meghan and the Royal Family.

Following the former actress, 41, and husband Prince Harry starring in an explosive Netflix series earlier this month, the world has been reacting to many of the claims made by the couple in the six-part series - including one in particular.

Some fans of the Royal Family were angry with the mum-of-two, 41, after the first instalment aired, in which Meghan recreated the moment she first met her husband's late grandmother.

Meghan was sat alongside Harry as told cameras about her first ever meeting with Queen Elizabeth II and reenacted the curtsy she did for the late Head of State.

She poked fun at herself as she recreated the moment - adding how she thought Harry was joking when he told her she would have to curtsy for his grandmother.

Smiling, Meghan then explained: "I mean it's surreal. There wasn't some big moment of, 'Now you're going to meet my grandmother’. I didn't know I was gonna meet her until moments before.

"We were in the car going to Royal Lodge for lunch, and he was like, 'Oh my grandmother is there, she's gonna be there after church.' We were in the car, driving and he's like, 'You know how to curtsy, right?' I just thought it was a joke."

Meghan went on to demonstrate the deep, dramatic curtsy she allegedly did in front of the Queen – which many fans of the late monarch took as the former actress mocking her husband's late grandmother while sat next to him.

Royal commentator Gyles Brandreth, a close friend of the Royal Family and the late Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth II, branded the scene 'embarrassing' and accused Meghan of lacking respect for her partner's family.

As reaction to the Netflix series from Harry and Meghan continues, Instagram user @emiliehrh - who dedicates their account to posting pictures of the Royal Family - has shared the clip of Meghan curtseying on screen during her time playing Rachel in Suits.

She captioned the clip: "Remember when #meghamarkle told #Oprah, she had no idea what curtsy was, Fergie had to tan out and teach her how to curtsy. She said she practiced in front of the house.

"In the Netflix documentary, she re-enacted the “medieval dinner and tournament” curtsy and mocked the Queen."

Meghan played paralegal Rachel - who went on to become an attorney - from 2011 until her departure in 2017, following her romance with Harry becoming official. Many of her former castmates attended her wedding in London on May 19 2019.

The short scene has gained traction online over recent days, with many pointing out the irony.

Many of Meghan's fans have defended the star from criticism in the wake of the Netflix show airing (Netflix)

In the wake of backlash towards Meghan over the curtsey saga, many big names have defended the American star from the huge amount of negativity directed at her.

David Baddiel blasted the disproportionate criticism as he took to twitter to write: "That clip where Meghan demonstrates how she overdid her first curtsey to the Queen - that's what she's doing - showing how *she* overdid it - laughing at herself for getting it wrong - everyone in the orgy of bad faith saying she's mocking The Queen/British customs knows this."

Another Twitter user added: "How is Meghan mocking herself [for not knowing how to curtsey], being spun to make it seem like she mocked The Queen?"
