A far western New South Wales man has been remanded in custody after being charged with the murder of a Nyngan farmer in January.

Police allege Clinton Beau Wrigley, 38, assaulted Joel Carter, 59, at his Miandetta property near Nyngan before stealing his car and driving away.

Mr Carter's body was found on January 25 after police conducted a welfare check, and a post-mortem revealed he died from significant head trauma.

Homicide detectives and local police established a dedicated strike force to investigate, and Mr Wrigley was arrested by officers in plain clothes during a vehicle stop near Warren on Tuesday afternoon.

Police video shows him being loaded into a 4-wheel-drive before been taken to Warren Police Station where he was charged with murder.

Police believe the two men were known to each other.

Mr Wrigley was supported by family during his first court appearance at Dubbo Local Court today where he did not apply for bail.

Mr Wrigley's case was adjourned for eight weeks until May 25. He will appear in Dubbo Local Court via audio-visual link.
