Visitors to a Wandsworth centre will be able to put ‘indoor climbing’ on their shopping list later this year, with a leisure firm signing to open its first London venue.
Parthian Climbing, which provides instruction and coaching, will open the indoor climbing centre in the Summer, and it will feature a replica of “The Titan”, the bouldering wall which will feature at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The site will also include a cafe, gym and co-working space. The 25,000 square feet letting at Landsec’s and Invesco’s Southside shopping centre marks the latest deal in a growing trend for retail landlords to attract unconventional tenants to popular shopping spots.
For Parthian Climbing this will be its fifth UK branch and first in the capital. ‘The Titan’, which is being provided by EP Climbing, is expected to appeal to professional athletes, while the wider centre is set to attract all levels of climbing enthusiasts.
John Dunne, chief executive of Parthian Climbing, said: “Parthian Climbing Southside is going to be a unique experience. Our relationship with EP Climbing has enabled us to create a new concept that will appeal to all levels and abilities, with The Titan putting us on the map as a global climbing attraction while also embedding Parthian Climbing in the local community.”
Landsec’s Mark Warne said: “With guests increasingly looking to experience something new, a strong leisure offering is essential for any successful retail destination.”
In 2021 Gravity Active Entertainment signed a lease to take space in the Southside shopping centre for an entertainment hub, comprising a e-karting area, and darts, ping pong and pool tables.
The latest deal was brokered by real estate agents Colliers and Stárka Property.
