Cliftonville receive mixed bag of news on injury front

Cliftonville have revealed they are hopeful striker Ryan Curran will be back in action again next month after being diagnosed with a groin strain.

The Reds have been taking "precautionary measures" with Curran as he has been an unused sub for the last seven matches.

But on a statement on the club website Cliftonville revealed a positive diagnosis has now been received for the 29-year-old.

"Ryan Curran – who, as a precautionary measure, has been an unused sub for the last seven matches – last week received a positive diagnosis on a groin strain and is hopeful of making a full comeback next month," said the statement.

The Reds are hoping there will be an end in sight to Stephen Mallon's injury problems.

The former Sheffield United winger has been missing since August after suffering a serious quadricep tear in the win over Ballymena United.

It has been a frustrating spell for Mallon, who only arrived at Solitude in the summer, with the club sending him to London earlier this week for treatment in a bid to aid his recovery.

The club said: "(Even) though Steven has been close to a return on more than one occasion since then, has been unable to get fully over the line in that regard and yesterday flew to London for further treatment, with everyone at Solitude naturally wishing him a speedy recovery."

There was more positive news for Aaron Traynor though who made his return from a broken shin bone as a late substitute in Saturday’s win over Ballymena United.
