Cliftonville boss Paddy McLauglin snaps up former Portsmouth and Derry City midfielder

Cliftonville have confirmed their second major signing of the summer window with the capture of former Portsmouth and Derry City midfielder Gerard Story.

Storey, who represented Northern Ireland at U17 level, joins the Reds after spending a season with the Candystripes in the SSE Airtricity Premier Division.

The talented 20-year-old, who joined Portsmouth in 2019, has also enjoyed loan spells with Gosport Borough and Carrick Rangers at the tail end of the 2020/21 season.

Storey, who began his career at Portadown, arrives at Solitude 12 days after Paddy McLaughlin completed his first big deal of the window with the signing of highly-rated Larne striker Ronan Hale.

On his Instagram, Storey wrote: "Want to wish everyone involved at Derry City all the best for the future. Great club with amazing fans. Was a pleasure in the short time I was there."

Cliftonville, who finished runners-up to Linfield in the league in April, are currently preparing for the first qualifying round of the Europa Conference League in early-July.

Four friendlies are scheduled for this month starting with a home fixture against Derry City at Solitude this Saturday (June 11).
