He was also voted April’s Player of the Month by supporters as Cliftonville went on to finish runners-up in the Premiership and lift the League Cup.
Confirming the news of Coates’ new deal, Reds Chairman Paul McKeown told the club's website: “I’m personally very pleased that Colin will be with us next season and I’m sure our fans will be as well.
“Everybody saw what he brought to our squad over the past year, not just in terms of his experience and guidance off the pitch, but his performances on it, too.
"I’m looking forward to seeing more of the same next season and I know Colin is equally as pleased to have signed up at Solitude again.”
