Clifton mum 'gobsmacked' after weapon discovery outside her home

A distraught mum in Nottingham has told of her shock when she found a "massive knife" outside her home. Tracy Brown, a factory worker, said she was left "absolutely gobsmacked" at the discovery.

It all happened when her daughter, Alicia Berry, left her house at around 5am on April 30 to walk her dog. The 30-year-old had been staying at her parents' house in Wilkins Gardens.

However her sweet family time was cut short when she saw a "large knife, not a kitchen one" laying on the grass, in the communal garden. Ms Berry told her mum about the discovery.

Ms Brown, aged 58, added: "I did not think much of it until I saw it with my own eyes. It was a large, massive knife, not a kitchen one."

The worried mum said: "I was absolutely gobsmacked. It is near where I live, just outside my home in a shared community garden."

Ms Brown said that she rang the police straight away, and she was told to check if there was any blood on the blade. She collected the large knife in her washing basket.

"I am scared and fearful really that there are people out there who carry on this kind of knives," Ms Brown added. "This is a family residential area.

"I have grandchildren coming around to see me. What if they found that knife and picked it up?"

Ms Brown said that the incident made her feel more aware of the risks of knife crime. "I just cannot believe that it was so close to where I live. I am really scared."

She said that police have collected the knife on May 4. Nottinghamshire Police have been approached for comment.
