Cliffs of Moher chiefs clap back at tourist who claims site is 'tourist trap' in horror review

A spokesperson for the tourist attraction at the Cliff of Moher has clapped back at an unhappy customer after they branded the experience “a tourist trap.”

Thousands of people travel to visit the cliffs that stretch 700 feet over the Atlantic coast every year, and although there are many great reviews, there are always bound to be a few begrudged visitors.

Taking to the review section on Tripadvisor, a profile under the name icsics wrote: “Unfortunately this is now a tourist trap. €12 per adult. Rip off charge. Not much to justify this price in the centre, video was not working.

“Shame you feel you’ve been fleeced, views spectacular you might be better off viewing from the ferry. Pity”

In response, a spokesperson said: “Dear icsics, Thank you for your review of the Cliffs of Moher and we are sorry to read that you felt the admission charge is a rip-off.

“The Cliffs of Moher Experience is purpose built as a safe viewing point along the Cliffs and to provide information and services to visitors as well as conservation of the area.”

Listing the lengthy features covered by the entry fee, they included: “Parking, Safe Viewing Platforms and Pathways, Visitor Centre & Exhibition, O’Brien’s Tower & Roof Top viewing, Retail and Catering Outlets, Toilets, Wi-Fi, Audio Guide and App.

“As well as this we have a team onsite to provide assistance such as visitor management, information, guided tours, wheelchairs and mobility assistance for the less abled, first aid as required, site maintenance, litter picking and conservation of the Cliffs of Moher site itself and the Burren and Cliffs of Moher UNESCO Global Geopark.

“We also offer other complimentary services such as Binoculars and Picnic Blankets on loan, water refill station, phone charging and luggage storage.”

They went on to say: “There are no further charges for the services onsite after this admission charge unless of course visitors wish to purchase some souvenirs from the Retail Outlets or some food or drinks from our Food & Beverage Outlets.

“We also provide Picnic areas and an internal dining area for those who wish to bring their own snacks. We offer reduced rates for advance booking online and children under 12 years are free of charge when accompanied by an adult.

“We hope this clarifies the admission charges at the Cliffs of Moher Experience. Best wishes from all the team.”
