Clement Lenglet explains how Tottenham must improve in big games after latest costly defeat

Clement Lenglet has called on Tottenham to improve their “intensity and quality” in big games after falling to another worrying defeat.

Spurs have now been beaten by Manchester United and Arsenal in their biggest tests of the season, while snatching a late point at Chelsea and losing away to Sporting CP in the Champions League.

“It’s clear, we’ve lost three games against three big teams, this is where we have to improve,” Lenglet told Sky Sports.

“When we play this type of game we have to increase the intensity, the quality on the pitch. But it’s easy to talk now because I’m not on the pitch.

“When you are on the pitch you have to give more because it’s clear [we’re not doing] enough to win at the moment, what we are doing against this type of team. We have to work to improve and be competitive in our next game against a big team.”

French defender Lenglet has been rotated in and out of the line-up this season but praised coach Antonio Conte for helping to improve his game.

“I’m really happy to work with him, he’s a really competitive guy, he wants to win every moment,” added the 27-year-old.

“As a football player and a man it’s really interesting to be in his side. I can improve a lot, he’s a perfectionist. As a perfectionist he wants the best from his players and, for me, it’s the perfect time to be here to improve myself and give my best for the club.”
