Cleland councillor 'working hard' to combat frequent fly-tipping spot

A Labour councillor has said she is doing all she can to try and combat an illegal fly-tipping spot.

Louise Roarty has frequently complained about people dumping rubbish and commercial waste at a lay-by on Windyedge Road, Cleland.

The Murdouston councillor is now working with North Lanarkshire Council to try and find a more permanent solution to the problem.

Louise told Lanarkshire Live : "I have been trying to get something done about this problem spot for years.

"The area was cleaned just last Friday by the council and on Saturday morning there was already bedroom furniture dumped there.

"I have asked about having some CCTV installed there but the council has said that this won't be possible as it would require a road closure order to erect a pole.

"I am now working with the roads department to try and have this lay-by closed off so that there is nowhere for these illegal fly-tippers to dump their rubbish."
