New Zealand's Women's World Cup assault has been bolstered by the return of Annalie Longo and Ria Percival, who have overcome knee injuries to earn selection alongside teenage forward Milly Clegg.

Football Ferns coach Jitka Klimkova named her 23-player squad at Auckland's Eden Park on Friday, three weeks before the co-hosts open the tournament at the same venue against Norway.

Ali Riley will captain New Zealand, who have included 10 World Cup first-timers, including teenage forward Milly Clegg, and Michaela Foster - the daughter of All Blacks coach Ian Foster.

Given the number of new faces, the return to fitness of Percival - New Zealand's all-time leading appearance-maker with 161 caps - and Longo, not far behind with 124, is very welcome.

Football Ferns legend Maia Jackman said the pair would bring "a world of knowledge" to the young side.

Former Melbourne City defender Rebekah Stott - who represented Australia at youth level - has overcome Hodgkin lymphoma to win a place at her third World Cup.

Unlike co-hosts Australia, who harbour genuine ambitions of a deep run, New Zealand have yet to win a match at a World Cup.

The world No.26-ranked Kiwis have labelled that as their primary goal.

"I have absolute faith they will give everything for our team and the country come July," Klimkova said.

"With the extra motivation and excitement surrounding the event on home soil, we now need the country to get behind the team as we look to inspire our nation and deliver one of our best ever performances at a FIFA Women's World Cup."

Klimkova has used a nine-week training camp in Auckland to assess 38 players.

Missing from the squad are Sydney-born pair Ally Green and Brianna Edwards, both of whom switched allegiance from Australia in the hope of winning selection.

After debuting for the senior side earlier this year, Clegg has the chance to notch a piece of sporting history.

The 17-year-old forward could play and score at three World Cups inside 12 months, after achieving the feat at the under-20 and under-17 tournaments last year.

Those selected will enjoy record player payments from FIFA.

The governing body has guaranteed payments of $US30,000 ($A45,000) to every player, and at least $US60,000 ($A90,000) to those from teams that qualify for the knockout rounds.

New Zealand will play a sole friendly against Vietnam on July 10 in Napier before their opener against world No.12 and former World Cup winners Norway.

The Football Ferns also face Philippines and Switzerland in their group, with the top two progressing to the round of 16.
