No matter how careful we are when doing the laundry, white clothes unfortunately don't always keep at their brightest for very long.
Over time, stains and even frequent washing can dull the shade and make them turn an unpleasant shade of grey instead. One type of clothing that is particularly bad for this is socks, which can get really grubby looking no matter how many times they've been through the machine.
But instead of forking out and buying more pairs each time this happens, which can be expensive, cleaning fans have been sharing their top solutions on one of the many Facebook groups inspired by 'cleanfluencer' Mrs Hinch - and one popular suggestion only costs as little as 12p to do.
One mum took to the Mrs Hinch Made Me Do It group on social media to ask for advice on how to get her daughter's white school socks looking clean and fresh again, as they were still dirty after being washed.
She said: "Just washed my daughters white school socks and they have come out still looking dirty! Is there anything I can buy to get them looking clean and fresh again? Or is it a case of buying new ones?
Hoping to not buy everything in the shop before I find something that works."
She added that it was her daughter's black shoes that were likely to be causing the stains, and was keen to get some opinions on how to make them look as good as new as she hadn't had this problem before and wanted to avoid buying new ones.
Thankfully, plenty of cleaning fans were quick to come to her aid with suggestions, one of which was hailed by many as an effective solution.
Apparently, all you need for bright white clothes again is a dishwasher tablet, which you should soak the clothes in before washing as normal.
"I use a dishwasher tablet in with my whites," someone said.
Another echoed: "Soak mine in dishwasher tablets then wash."
And a third raved: "Dissolve a dish washer tablet in water, mix with warm water and washing powder and soak for a while. Works a treat with my sons white sports socks."
You can buy a pack of 40 dishwasher tablets from Tesco for £4.80, making each tablet cost just 12p. Alternatively, a pack of 30 dishwasher tablets from Asda costs £4, which works out at 13p per tablet.
Other popular suggestions included soaking the socks in diluted cleaning bleach before rinsing and washing as normal, as well as using Napisan to get rid of tough stains.
