Cleaning guru shares clever trick to unclog toilets using common 65p product

Let's face facts - cleaning your toilet is one of the less glamourous and desirable activities when you're a homeowner, but it becomes even more daunting when your faced with a blocked or backed up loo.

Unfortunately though, the task comes as part and parcel of being an adult, and is a completely necessary routine.

Some people will prefer to use more natural methods to save money amid the ongoing cost of living crisis - with costly chemicals causing a dint in already strapped bank accounts. And thankfully, there's one cheap every-day item in your kitchen cupboard that will do the trick.

The Mirror reports that following a viral hack on TikTok that saw a woman used salt to remove condensation from her windows, PureSalt has shared that salt is not just for condensation - the 65p kitchen product can also be used for unclogging toilets and drains too.

Rather than allow the clog to cause disruptions in your everyday life and unsanitary conditions in your home, use rock or table salt to remove the pesky blockage. Of course, this depends on the severity of the block, but salt is better for the environment and is much more affordable.

All you need to do is mix half a cup of rock or table salt with half a cup of baking soda. Then, you should pour it into the toilet along with six cups of boiling water.

Then, you can leave the solution to do its thing for several hours, and it will loosen the blockage. Once you've left it for long enough, you can break the rest of the clog with a plunger.

PureSalt also recommended treating your coloured clothes with salt before you put them in the washer to they don't bleed into your whites.
