Efforts have started to clean up the damage caused to a home in Bensham on Saturday during Storm Malik.
Strong gusts of wind managed to rip the entire roof off a home on Overhill Terrace, sending it crashing into the street below.
Shocked neighbours said residents ran to safety as slates were thrown into the street.

Seline Kennedy, who lives in a neighbouring property said: "There were tiles everywhere and people were running away from it."
The 26-year-old added: "There were tiles coming off left, right, and centre.
"It was scary seeing debris flying everywhere."
With Storm Malik and Storm Corrie becoming milder as the weekend progressed, clean up efforts have now started on Overhill Terrace.
Gateshead Council have confirmed that the property and surrounding area has been cleared and secured with perimeter fencing, until such time as structural engineers and insurance assessors have completed their necessary appraisals.
Residents of the immediate neighbouring properties have been temporarily relocated, with other nearby properties being advised to avoid using their rear yards as there is a loose roof section that is awaiting scaffolding to access.
Gateshead Council's Building Control team continue to work with residents and management agents to get repairs underway as soon as possible.
Neighbours claim the resident who lived at the property had evacuated before the incident occurred.
Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that they attended the incident on Saturday morning and evacuated two neighbouring properties.
They put a cordon in place and left the area after they were satisfied there was no immediate risk of structural damage.
