Clean Coasts are hosting an event on June 24 from 11am to 1pm on Rush South Beach to discuss why sand dunes are important for our coastal environment and habits.
World Sand Dune Day is on June 25 and Clean Coasts are working together with Fingal County Council and the Dublin Climate Action Regional Office to host this special event. There will be talks from guest speakers including expert researchers from Trinity College Dublin, local Rush community members and stakeholders working in the area of sand dune and coastal protection.
Guests will also take a walk on the beach to conclude the event to view the local sand dunes and discuss new protection measures being put in place. Clean Coasts have worked for the last 20 years to protect and conserve the Irish coastline and the 'Protect Our Dunes' campaign is one of many national projects and campaigns the organisation is dedicated to.
The organisation said: "Coastal sand dunes play a pivotal role in safeguarding coastal communities, serving as the first line of defence against coastal flooding and the relentless force of storms. They are not only essential for coastal protection but also provide a critical habitat for numerous plant and animal species."
