Beauticians at a South Tyneside salon are getting set to hold a 'massage marathon' to support the Chloe and Liam Together Forever Trust.
Cleadon Beauty on Front Street is hoping to give as many massages as they can to clients throughout April to raise funds for the charity set up in memory of Chloe Rutherford and Liam Curry.
The South Shields couple tragically died during the Manchester Arena attack in 2017. The trust set up in their name provides grants to young people in North East to help them achieve their goals in sport or performance.
Cleadon Beauty apprentices Adrienne Chastney, 17, and Georgia Langley, 24, will be carrying out the 30 minute back massages in the hope of raising more than £1,000 through donations from clients.
Co-owners Tracey Lilburn and Beverley Brown, who have run the salon for four years, say the apprentices are aiming to do at least 26 massages during the month.
"We have two apprentices who are at slightly different stages in the learning," Tracey said.
"In our industry, they get to the stage where they have learned the skill but have to practice to perfect it. So in a way to do that we decided, 'why don't we do something for charity to try and raise some money while they are learning as well?'
"Because they are young themselves and from the South Shields area, we wanted a local charity and we were keen to support the Chloe and Liam trust which are really supportive of young people progressing and reaching their full potential. So we thought the two things married up would be perfect.
"People can come in, enjoy a treatment and make a donation to the charity. So the charity benefits and the apprentices benefit because they are learning all the time while they are doing it.
"It brings a buzz to the salon and everybody gets in a good mood."
The first appointments will start on April 1 and clients can book in by calling the salon directly. Donations can be made via the Just Giving Page: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Cleadonbeautymasssgemarathon
