Claudine Auger who played James Bond girl Domino opposite Sean Connery dead at 78

Bond girl Claudine Auger, who played Domino in Thunderball, has died aged 78.

Auger appeared with Sean Connery in the 1965 classic.

It was confirmed the actress, who was the first French Bond girl, died in Paris on Thursday.

The starlet was propelled into fame when she played 007's lover, though her voice in the movie was dubbed by a German voice over artist who worked on a number of Bond films.

Thunderball was the fourth film in the spy franchise where Bond is tasked with a mission to recover two atomic bombs stolen from a NATO plane.

The James Bond movie acted as a launchpad for Auger's acting career. Later she moved into French film and TV after the 1960s.

The actress had a flourishing acting career spanning three decades after her big break.

Born in April 1941 in German-occupied France, she started as a model and was runner-up in the 1958 Miss World competition.

Auger always longed to be an actress and she took acting lessons on the side of her modelling.

It wouldn't be until years later she starred in the Bond movie.

When she was 18 she married director Pierre Gaspard-Huit, 43, and appeared in a number of his films in the early 60s.

They would divorce and she married British businessman Peter Brent in the 80s, having one daughter Jessica Claudine Brent.

Her last role was in the film 'Los hombres siempre mienten' in 1995.
