According to preliminary results released by the National Electoral Institute (INE), Claudia Sheinbaum is on track to win Mexico's presidential election and make history as the first woman to lead the country's government. Sheinbaum, the candidate of Mexico's ruling party Morena, secured between 58.3% and 60.7% of the vote, as indicated by INE's quick count, a statistical method that forecasts voting trends based on a sample of polling stations.
Her closest competitor, Xóchitl Gálvez from the opposition coalition, trailed behind with between 26.6% and 28.6% of the vote. Jorge Álvarez Máynez, the candidate from the Citizen Movement party, secured the third position with between 9.9% and 10.8% of the vote.
The final validation of the presidential election rests with the Electoral Court. If confirmed, Sheinbaum will assume office as the President of Mexico on October 1, marking a significant milestone in the country's political history.
