Saddle up for a pedal back in time with the relaunch of 1970s favourite the Chopper.
Maker Raleigh reckons, despite minor tweaks, the new bike is as much like the original as possible.
It took four years to develop and has a new frame. There is still a one-piece saddle, mid-frame gear shifter but a lower rear bar.
In the 1970s, Choppers sold for £32, around £350 today, and originals now sell for up to £3,000 at auction. The new limited edition is available from June 20 for £995.
The Chopper outsold other bikes by six to one and saved Raleigh from administration.
They became part of Britain’s cultural landscape and have also featured in films such as The Goonies and Back to the Future.
Supergrass rode them in the video for their 90s hit Alright. And, more recently, they were featured in Netflix hit Stranger Things.
David Beckham and Lady Gaga are also said to be fans.
Raleigh’s Lee Kidger said: “The Chopper is still seen by Raleigh as the jewel in the brand’s crown.”
