Classic gameshow to return with new host on different channel

Gameshows are a huge part of British television with many viewers tuning into programmes like The Chase, Michael McIntyre's The Wheel and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? to name just a few. Now an iconic gameshow is returning to TV but on a different channel and with a different host.

The well-loved show Deal Or No Deal is back but will not be returning to Channel 4 where it was aired from 2005 to 2016. Instead, the new series of Deal Or No Deal will now be shown on ITV1. You can keep up to date with the latest TV and showbiz news by signing up to the newsletter here.

Deal Or No Deal was presented by host Noel Edmonds but with the change of channel comes a change of host as Stephen Mulhern, who currently presents Catchphrase and appears on Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway, will be fronting the show. There will be a brand-new setting with brand-new prize boxes and a new batch of contestants hoping to win a whopping cash prize and beat the brand-new Banker.

Each week, a contestant is confronted with 22 sealed boxes, each one hiding a different amount of money. Without knowing what each one contains, the contestant must eliminate the boxes, which are opened one at a time, and the amount of money inside is revealed.

Pressure mounts as the player is tempted by the notorious Banker to accept an offer of cash in exchange for what might be inside their box. As long as the larger cash prizes remain unchosen, the Banker’s offers will get higher. But that can all change in an instant if a big cash prize is unveiled.

Speaking about presenting the show, Stephen said: "Wow what an opportunity, I’m beyond excited to be hosting the brand-new series. I’ve always been such a huge fan of the show, so much so, I’ve been practising at home with small cereal boxes!... It’s one of the greatest shows of all time and to be the new host is an honour! I can’t wait to get started.”

Casting is currently open for Deal Or No Deal and if you think you can win big you can apply here. There is no airdate yet for the show's return.
