Classic Austin A30 car 'destroyed' in M5 crash

A classic car from the 1950s has been "destroyed" in a crash on the motorway. The Austin A30 worth around £12,000 was wrecked on the M5 today (Tuesday, July 12).

Devon and Cornwall Police said no other vehicles were involved and that there had been "very minor injuries". But the classic car had been "destroyed".

The incident, which happened at around 7:20am, closed all lanes southbound one mile from the crash for 40 minutes.

There was sympathy online for whoever owned the car. Jenny Carter wrote: "Oh dear! I live next door to a guy who has some beautiful classic cars and is very passionate about them, and I know he would be devastated if something like that happened to one of his! Looks like it was a beauty too! At least there were no serious injuries - that is fortunate."

The Austin A30 made its first appearance in 1951 and is today considered a 'cute classic', according to an online history of the iconic car.
