New Delhi: A Video Conference was held between the Secretary (Pension) and Staff Side of the National Council Joint Consultative Machinery (NC JCM) on Saturday to discuss pension disparities introduced in the Finance Bill.

The Secretary (Pension) Shiva Gopal Mishra said that the government is expected to issue a clarification, ensuring parity between pensioners, particularly those who retired before and after specific dates, and reiterating its commitment to their welfare.

Backgrounder

Here is a brief backgrounder of the pension controversary:

The government implemented the pension as recommended by 5th and 6th Central Pay Commissions (CPC). These Commissions introduced distinctions between pensioners based on retirement dates (1st January 1996 and 1st January 2006 respectively).

However the 7th CPC ensured parity between pre-2016 and post-2016 retirees.

This parity by the 7th CPC is expected to continue under the 8th CPC.

The parity between pensioners will be maintained as assured by the  government.

Therefore the pensioners should not worry about it.

At the end of the meeting the Secretary (Pension) assured that a clarification will be issued in this regard.
