A 39-year-old Co Clare man has appeared in court charged with sending two lewd images of his penis via WhatsApp to two females.
At Ennis District Court on Wednesday, the man - who can’t be named for legal reasons - appeared in connection with sending the two images to the females living outside Clare on May 1 2021 and, three days later, on May 4 2021.
Sgt Aiden Lonergan said that the man could be remanded on bail to appear at Ennis District Court for next week where he will face a third related charge.

In the case, the man is charged with on May 1, 2021 of intentionally engaging in offensive conduct of a sexual nature by sending an image of his erect penis via WhatsApp to a female in such a manner to cause fear, distress or alarm to another person.
The man faces a similar charge that on May 4, 2021 of intentionally engaging in offensive conduct of a sexual nature by sending an image of his erect penis via WhatsApp to another female in such a manner to cause fear, distress or alarm to another person.
The charges are contrary to Section 45(3) of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Act 2017.
A person convicted of such an offence in the district court faces a prison term up to six months and on indictment in the circuit court up to two years.
In evidence of arrest, charge and caution, Det Garda John O’Neill of Henry Street Garda Station, Limerick said that the accused made ‘no reply’ when charged and cautioned before court on Wednesday.
Judge Mary Larkin said that reporting restrictions should be imposed at this stage due to the nature of the charges.
Sgt Lonergan said that Gardai had no objections to bail and bail terms have been agreed.
These include that the accused does not engage with social media communications with any females unknown to him; be of good behaviour; sign on weekly at his local Garda station and have no contract directly or indirectly with the alleged injured parties.
Judge Larkin remanded the accused on bail to re-appear before Ennis District Court next Wednesday, March 8.
