Claire Sweeney opens up about 'wobble' after turning 50 during 'really hard' lockdown

Claire Sweeney has revealed that she experienced a ‘wobble’ as she approached her 50th birthday.

The former Brookside actress found that things were taking a toll on her as she marked the milestone birthday after enduring a ‘really hard’ time during lockdown.

Although it’s been a tough year for her, mum-of-one Claire has finally turned a corner and is now at her happiest after embracing all that the past 12 months has thrown her way.

Opening up about her ‘wobble’, Claire told OK! Magazine: “I have friends saying, "Embrace it," but I'm having a right old wobble. It suddenly seems old, but I know it's not because I feel great.”

The Scarborough star, who shares six-year-old son Jaxon with former fiancé Daniel Reilly, experienced a number of highs and lows whilst holed up at home with her son amid lockdown.

Reflecting on the tough couple of months, Claire admitted that she ‘struggled’ with homeschooling.

“Part of me has enjoyed it. There were moments when I struggled, of course, like with homeschooling. I have so much respect for his teacher. I messaged her one day saying, "I'm crying and he's crying. We've been fighting,” she revealed.

During the candid interview, Claire also said that the past year was 'really hard,' for those in the TV and entertainment industry due to a lack of work.

The TV star admitted that she has barely worked since her pantomime was cut short due to lockdown last year.

Despite this, things are looking up for the much-loved star.

Claire has recently just landed a new presenting role on BBC Radio Merseyside, and she couldn’t be any happier.

The radio show, called Claire Sweeney Meets, has the likes of Jason Isaacs, John Barnes, and Paul O'Grady as special guests.

The actress first shot to fame when she landed the leading role of Lindsey Corkhill in the Channel 4 drama in 1991.

She later appeared on Celebrity Big Brother in 2001, which skyrocketed her career even further.

After her stint on the reality show, the star landed the role of Roxie Hart in the musical Chicago in the West End.

Her debut record landed at number 15 in the UK Albums Chart.
