Claire Richards 'confirms' she's Masked Singer's Knitting in off-screen slip up on Twitter

Claire Richards looks to have given herself away as being Knitting on the Masked Singer, after a rather telling slip up on Twitter during Saturday night's show.

For weeks now, many viewers have been totally convinced that Steps star Claire is the star inside the Knitting costume. Aside from her distinctive vocals, which people at home claimed to have recognised in an instant, the clues have been adding up to it being her behind the mask.

in the first episode of The Masked Singer's new series alone, there was a clue about a magpie, a clear nod to One for Sorrow - a song Steps released in 1998; the appearance of 2002, which was the year Claire broke away from Steps to form a double act with H and a mention of 26, which may have seemed pretty innocuous to most people, but not to Steps fans, who quickly worked out it was the sum of 5,6,67,8 - the title of the group's dance craze debut single.

Another word that cropped up in Knitting's first VT was 'crafty,' which sent some Masked Singer viewers along the path of it potentially being well known Queens of crafting, Sara Davies and Stacey Solomon. However, Claire then unintentionally added fuel to the fire that she was Knitting, by posting a photo of her doing some crafting on her Instagram story, hours before Knitting's second performance.

Claire has been trying to pool 'the wool' over people's eyes by getting involved in Masked Singer guesses on Twitter every time the show is on ITV. However, she made an obvious error at the weekend, when she went public with a prediction for every single character, apart from Knitting.

Like many viewers, Claire is now sure Fawn is Natalie Appleton, Jellyfish is Amber Riley and Ricky Wilson could be Phoenix, but the fact she failed to mention anyone from Knitting puts her firmly in the frame.

After she guessed Busted's Charlie Simpson for Rhino, one fan was quick to respond: "It sure is. Also you forgot to mention Knitting this week who do you think it is? I swear it's someone from a band called Steps...maybe called Claire."

Other clues that Claire is knitting include a line of 'the future being in two halves' - clearly a reference to Steps releasing two versions of their albums What The Future Holds and Knitting asking for the light to be turned on, which many fans took as a link to Steps' hit Scared of the Dark.

And, after weeks of viewers being left frustrated at the judges failing to identify Claire, Davina McCall finally guessed her on Saturday night, having revisited the magpie clue from week one.
