The first pictures of Claire Foy and Matt Smith in rehearsals for Lungs at the Old Vic have been released.
After leaving their roles as Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip in Netflix’s The Crown, the pair are set to reunite on stage for a revival of Duncan Macmillan’s celebrated play.
The two-hander, to be directed by Old Vic boss Matthew Warchus, follows one couple’s decision about whether to have a baby in the face of a developing climate crisis. The production will be designed by Rob Howell, with lighting by Tim Lutkin.
Lungs was first performed in 2011 in Washington DC, before a German-language production at the Schaubühne in Berlin which was directed by Katie Mitchell.
Smith’s last stage appearance was in Anthony Neilson’s Unreachable at the Royal Court in 2016, while Foy starred in Macbeth opposite James McAvoy at Trafalgar Studios in 2013.
Lungs will run from October 14 until November 9; oldvictheatre.com
