Claire Byrne overtaken by new bookies favourite to land Late Late Show hosting job

The bid for the Late Late hotseat has taken a fresh turn as favourite Claire Byrne is overtaken by a Galway presenter.

Galway native Sarah McInerney has moved into 11/10 favourite to take over from Ryan Tubridy, according to Boylesports.

The Prime Time TV presenter was previously listed as a 16/1 shot when the race began, but has now become the forerunner to take the reins of Ireland's Friday night staple.

Some acutely aware betters noticed a timely follow of McInerney’s Twitter account from The Late Late Show's social media team as soon as Tubridy revealed he was stepping away from the helm after 14 years.

Miriam O’Callaghan was the initial frontrunner before she ruled herself out and announced that while the speculation was "very flattering" she is happy to continue co-hosting Prime Time.

Morning radio host Claire Byrne, who begins a new quiz show Ireland's Smartest after stepping down from her last TV role Claire Byrne Live last year, was previously at 4/11 favourite just 24 hours ago but has now fallen behind at 5/4.

When announcing his departure on St Patrick's Day, Tubridy wished good luck to whoever "she might be" in reference to his imminent replacement, suggesting the Irish telly throne is most likely going to be handed over to a female.

Comedian and beloved Saturday night chat show host Tommy Tiernan is the most likely man to get the top job, with Boylesports listing him at 14/1 ahead of Anton savage (18/1) and Dara O’Briain (20/1).

Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports, said:This market has been pretty erratic since Tubs called time on his Late Late career, but this is the most notable shake-up in a couple of weeks as Claire Byrne appeared to be locked in as hot favourite.”
