Claire Brock hails mutual 'benefit' of Ciara Doherty's return to Virgin Media's The Tonight Show

TV star Claire Brock has said having co-anchor Ciara Doherty return back to work provides a work/life balance for the pair.

Ciara returned to work to co-host Virgin Media’s The Tonight Show in April after welcoming her second child, Edie, last May with husband Richard Stern.

Claire was at the helm of the show while Ciara was on maternity leave – but the Dubliner says that since Ciara has returned, the co-hosts have provided a work/life balance to each other.

She said: “Ciara and I provide each other with a bit of work/life balance in that regard, which is of benefit to both of us.

“And it also gives us a chance to get out of the studio and talk to the people who are being impacted by issues and get their stories out there,” she told Woman’s Way magazine.

It comes after Ciara recently revealed returning back to work after maternity leave was a “shock to the system”.

She said: “The first week I came back was a shock to the system, because I was thrown in at the deep end and there was so much going on in the world.

“I was overwhelmed, to be honest. But within a week or two, it had settled down. I had got my head around it, we’d found our feet at home with a better routine and I had adjusted.

“Now I feel more in control. That first week back was tough going, I have to say.”

Ciara said at the time she felt “lucky” to have such great support from pals Claire, Karen Koster and Colette Fitzpatrick.

“They were a real support to me that week because they could see that I was struggling when I came back, and I felt quite torn between work and trying to see the children and they reassured me that I would find my feet again and that it would work out.

“And they were right,” she previously told the RTE Guide.

Claire also opened up about “struggling” to balance her routine with work and with her family.

She said: “I thought I would get into his fantastic routine of putting the phone away and unwinding with a book but it’s really hard.

“I’m struggling to get it right and find I’m still pretty wound up going to bed.

“My youngest child is two and she can be up and down throughout the night and then I’m up for the school run.

“And then, with my job, I can’t miss a beat I terms of current affairs, so I’m swotting up on what’s going on throughout the day. It’s hard to get the balance right but when I do find some down time, I try to make the most of it.

“I’m aware that I need to improve my self-care a bit though.”
