Claims Bruno Guimaraes had dust-up with troublesome teammate at Lyon before leaving

A French newspaper has reported that Bruno Guimaraes escaped a toxic teammate by making his move from Lyon to Newcastle United.

French newspaper L’Equipe ran a story this morning about Lyon centre-back Jerome Boateng being dropped for today’s match against Nice, having only signing from Bayern Munich last summer.

In the article the journalist listed some of the conflict the 33-year-old Germany international has been involved with since arriving at the club, including an incident with midfielder Bruno Guimaraes .

The article in L’Equipe, translated by Google, said of Boateng: “The defender, whose legitimacy is eroding over time, has already been involved in several altercations with his teammates.

“In Rennes, on November 7, he had yelled at his captain Léo Dubois in the middle of the match, and the television cameras had not missed anything from this very virulent exchange. After the rout in Brittany (1-4), he attacked Rayan Cherki in the locker room, and the two men had to be separated.

“There was also a rather significant problem, several weeks ago, during training: Boateng came to blows in the middle of a session with Bruno Guimaraes, because he had not appreciated a remark. The fight had to be broken up by several people.”

The newspaper did not reveal its sources, but if it did happen it may have contributed to the Brazilian’s decision to leave Lyon and sign with Newcastle United .

Shortly after signing for Lyon in September 2021, Boateng was also involved in a more serious episode, being found guilty in a German court of assaulting a woman.
