In what seems like an almost unreal statistic given the dominance of Ohio State over the last decade-plus, Houston Texans rookie quarterback CJ Stroud just accomplished what no other Buckeye quarterback ever has in the national football league. Stroud became the first quarterback in his alma mater to throw for 380+ yards in a single game,
Stroud might already be the most impressive quarterback to come out of the Ohio State program in its decorated history, with the school finding limited success in its prior signal callers. The likes of Troy Smith, Braxton Miller, Cardale Jones, Terrelle Pryor, etc. just could not retain a starting position in the league. It is also been a struggle for Chicago Bears’ quarterback Justin Fields to find success at the next level, potentially adding to a shaky track record from the team.
With just two games, Stroud already boasts more 300-yard games than Fields, and one could expect that to grow. Though to be fair, Fields hasn’t had much around him and seemingly has not been properly developed.
It’s early in the year, but Stroud already looks like the cool, calm, collected, and accurate passer that he was at Ohio State, and the Houston Texans look like they may have found their long-term answer at the position since the departure of the troubled Deshaun Watson. Stroud is quickly on his way to becoming the best quarterback out of Ohio State in its history, even if the bar is admittedly low.
