CJ Egan-Riley completes Hibs transfer as Lee Johnson beefs up defensive ranks with Burnley loanee

Hibs have snapped up CJ Egan-Riley on loan from Burnley until the summer.

The English Championship leaders have allowed the 20-year-old to make the move north of the border to beef up Lee Johnson's defensive ranks. The youngster, who can operate at centre-back, right-back and as a number six joins with top pedigree. He came through the ranks at Manchester City under Pep Guardiola and made three top team appearances in the Champions League, English Premier League and English League Cup.

He joined City legend Vincent Kompany in the summer but has made just six appearances to date and will now ply his trade at Easter Road until the end of the current campaign in a major boost to Hibs.

On his latest recruit, Johnson told Hibs' official website: “CJ is a top young talent, and we can’t wait to start working with him. He’s a player that Vincent Kompany took to Burnley after knowing his qualities from the Manchester City set-up.

“Due to Burnley’s positive form and performances this season, they have allowed him out to get important game-time, and as soon as we knew he was available, we were quick to snap up the opportunity.

“He provides us with extra versatility playing as a centre-half, number six, and as a right-back. We see this as an opportunity to help us improve, but also as a huge opportunity for him to develop.”

The Hibees have been left short in the defensive ranks due to Ryan Porteous' exit for Watford while Rocky Bushiri is out for an extend period on the sidelines.
