Lexington residents who want to get rid of documents in a safe and environmentally friendly way can do so at a city-sponsored event Saturday. Lauren Monahan is an environmental initiatives specialist with the Division of Waste Management. She said the twice-a-year program is at least 10 years old.
“The event is free for any Lexington resident that has perhaps done some spring cleaning, has sensitive documents containing personal information, data, tax information, financial information.”
Monahan said city and shredding company employees will be there to help during the event, which will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the old city dump on Old Frankfort Pike, across from the Humane Society.
“So we'll have lots of hands on deck to help lift your boxes out of your trunk or your back seat. And we work with Shred-It, which is a division of Stericycle.”
Monahan said wet material, plastic binders and binder clips will not be accepted – because they can clog the shredder.
