City of Bristol College appoints new principal and chief executive

City of Bristol College has appointed a new principal and chief executive officer.

Julia Gray is currently acting principal and chief executive at Calderdale College in Halifax, West Yorkshire, and will start her new Bristol role in January.

Richard Harris, who has been in the post for City of Bristol College for the past academic year will return to his deputy CEO position from August, with Diane Dimond, a current member of the College’s senior leadership team taking over until Ms Gray’s arrival.

City of Bristol College said Ms Gray, a current Ofsted inspector who has worked within the sector for more than 20 years, has “an excellent understanding of quality” in further education, and how changing external measures impact the day-to-day running of a college.

The College’s chair of governors Peter Rilett said: “I am pleased to announce that after a very robust recruitment process involving staff, students and external stakeholders, we have appointed Julia Gray to be our new principal and CEO.

“The governing body was impressed by Julia’s drive, vision and commitment to the highest quality of teaching and educational experience”.

Ms Gray said: “I am thrilled to be joining City of Bristol College as Principal and CEO in January 2023. The College and the city are vibrant and dynamic places, and I am looking forward to moving to the city and getting to know the students, staff and stakeholders at the heart of the College“.

City of Bristol College, which works with more than 500 employers in the city who employ an apprentice, opened its £9m Advanced Construction Skills Centre in September last year.
