'Much of our program tonight is going to focus on the people who actually make the movies'. - Tom Rothman #CinemaCon #CinemaCon2025April 1, 2025
Don't worry if you're not at CinemaCon 2025, because we're here to make sure you don't miss out any of the biggest new movie announcements from the industry event.
The first big Hollywood studio presentation was from Sony Pictures, with CEO Tom Rothman kicking things off with a welcome speech. According to attendees that walked through the casino hotel doors of Caesars Palace in Las Vegas yesterday (March 31) evening, it sounds like it was a packed lineup of new movies with many directors taking the stage to promote their films.

Matt Bolton, Managing Editor for Entertainment, stepping in here to say that while we only got a very brief appearance from filmmaker Zach Cregger about his upcoming Resident Evil movie, I'm excited about this one – despite knowing very little about it.
Cregger directed the wonderfully bonkers Barbarian, and has a new movie planned for release during 2025 called Weapons starring Josh Brolin and Julia Garner, among others.
He spent his time on stage talking about how much he loves the video game series, and I'm sure fans of the series are looking forward to seeing what version of that he chooses to tap into.
I gotta say, I'm equally fine if he takes it off into its own direction – I unashamedly love (most) of the Milla Jovovich Resident Evil movie series, and that really benefited from finding its own vibe within the (ahem) umbrella of the franchise.
The Beatles - A Four-Film Cinematic Event, directed by Sam Mendes. Harris Dickinson (John Lennon)Paul Mescal (Paul McCartney)Barry Keoghan (Ringo Starr)Joseph Quinn (George Harrison) In theatres April 2028. #TheBeatlesFourFilmCinematicEvent pic.twitter.com/mREL0nPcfCApril 1, 2025
Perhaps the most interesting news of the show came about Sam Mendes' upcoming suite of movies about The Beatles. For a start, we got a big casting announcement of huge names playing the fab four:
- George Harrison: Joseph Quinn (Fantastic Four, A Quiet Place: Day One)
- John Lennon: Harris Dickinson (Babygirl, Triangle of Sadness)
- Paul McCartney: Paul Mescal (Gladiator II, Aftersun)
- Ringo Starr: Barry Keoghan (Saltburn, The Banshees of Inisherin)
In case you're not aware, the plan is to make four movies, each centering on a different member of the group. And the really juicy part is that all four movies are slated to come out during April 2028.
I have to say, I'm struggling with this one. That's quite a cast, and Mendes has made some great stuff, but I feel like people are going to be pretty burnt out by the time they come to Ringo's movie (and you know it's going to be poor Ringo last).

We also got news that the Spider-Verse conclusion, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, is coming on June 4th, 2027 – or, at least that's the plan. The movie has already had plenty of trouble hitting its dates, and was originally planned for a 2024 release.
Some of the creative team went on-stage during CinemaCon and presented a teaser with apparently great-looking new animation, but with audio taken from the previous movies.
If – like TechRadar's Senior Entertainment Reporter, Tom Power – you can't believe you have to wait so long to find out how Miles Morales' story ends, then the good news is that some first look images were posted on social media for fans to enjoy (see below).

One of the buzziest news tidbits out of CinemaCon so far is the reveal that the fourth Tom Holland/MCU Spider-Man movie will be called 'Brand New Day', and will be released on July 31st 2026 (one week after Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, making it a great seven days for Tom Holland fans).
Spider-Man: Brand New Day breaks from the 'home' naming convention of the first three movies, probably indicating a new approach to match its new director, Destin Daniel Cretton, who held Shang-Chi for Marvel previously.
Comic fans will instantly recognize the name 'Brand New Day', however, and probably won't have very good feelings about it – but we don't think the story will have anything major to do with the comic's story other than a name that evokes a fresh start.

Amelia tapping back in here to bring you the latest on the new live-action Zelda movie!
There's no way Sony could make a presentation about its upcoming movies without mentioning its latest project with Nintendo to adapt the Zelda video game franchise. Unfortunately, however, attendees at the event reported that there wasn't much in the way of news.
It sounds like Nintendo took the wind out of Sony's sails because the video game publisher had already confirmed that the live-action Zelda movie got a release date of March 26, 2027 during Nintendo Direct.
Plot details and casting are being kept firmly under wraps for the moment, so make sure not to fall for any of those rumors lurking around online this April's Fools Day!
AND YES WE GOT THE MENTION OF LIVE ACTION ZELDA. #CinemaCon #CinemaCon2025April 1, 2025
My personal favorite bit of news from Sony's lineup has to be that a new trailer for 28 Years Later was shown off.
The video has not yet been published online, but you can watch the first trailer for 28 Years Later above to get an idea of what Danny Boyle and Alex Garland have been working on for the third chapter of this zombie trilogy.
Taking to the stage, Boyle revealed that "Alex Garland and I set out to make three films in this world. Each one stands alone, but they're all linked together". The first of these films is 28 Years Later, which is already finished, and the second is wrapping up production.
Nia DaCosta, who wrote the script for the Candyman reboot, is the director for the second film, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple. The second installment is also set to star British actor Ralph Fiennes, but DaCosta says that while audiences have seen him many roles, we've "never seen him like this".

Sticking with all the new horror movies coming soon to theaters, there's also the new Until Dawn video game adaptation that's arriving on April 25, 2025. Even though the movie adaptation won't follow the same story, this one has a lot of people excited.
Next up on the docket is the sixth installment in the horror movie franchise Insidious, which Variety previously reported that co-producers Blumhouse Productions and Screen Gems were set to release the film on August 29, 2025. However, that has since been pushed back until August 21, 2026.
Last but certainly not least is the reboot of the 1990s slasher I Know What You Did Last Summer. Sony unveiled some first look images of the sequel that reportedly prompted cheers at CinemaCon when the movie's original cast Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr flashed up on screen. We'll be able to see for ourselves when it releases in cinemas on July 18, 2025.

Moving onto animation, the director of Sony's upcoming animated sports comedy GOAT, Tyree Dillihay, was on stage last night talking about the new film. There's not a lot out there about this at the moment but we do know that cinema goers will get to buy tickets for February 13, 2026 – the same time as NBA’s All-Star weekend in Los Angeles.

On the anime front, Sony has three new releases coming up. The first is the sequel to the Chainsaw Man anime series. Titled Chainsaw Man: The Movie – Reze Arc, the movie will open in cinemas in the US on October 29, 2025.
There's also the upcoming international release of the final Demon Slayer movies, alongside the US release of Scarlet, which Sony acquired the rights for from critically-acclaimed director director Mamoru Hosoda (The Girl Who Leapt Through Time; Wolf Children).
Sony has three major Anime releases upcoming, including a new Demon Slayer, new Chainsaw Man and a third title called Scarlett. #CinemaCon #CinemaCon2025April 1, 2025
Matt here again! The next Avengers movie may not be until next year, but we've got an even more impactful cross-movie fighting team-up coming: Karate Kid Legends.
Starring original Karate Kid Ralph Macchio, newer sensei Jackie Chan, and full newcomer Ben Wang as our latest titular Kid, it's going to mix elements from every era of Karate Kid, taking place three years after the end of Cobra Kai.
A fresh trailer was shown, and Sony promised that it would be available to watch online today, April 1st (it promised this on March 31st, so it's probably no fool). You can watch the original trailer above, and the movie is rapidly approaching its May 30th release date.

What can we expect from Lionsgate's presentation later today? The company has a handful of relevant and hugely successful movie series, and chief among them is the 'world of John Wick'.
I use that that phrase advisedly, because Ballerina – which is officially called From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, somewhat desperately – is coming on June 7th, so we're sure to get a big new trailer and an appearance from its star, Ana de Armas.
But I'd put my money on a surprise last-minute Keanu appearance too, and the reveal of John Wick: Chapter 5 in a slightly more formal manner than an executive in an interview going "we’re working on a fifth John Wick film" more or less unprompted.

John Wick isn't Lionsgate's only money-making crown jewel, though. There's a new Hunger Games book out in 2025, called Sunrise on the Reaping, and it's another prequel telling the story of a character from the original set of books.
After the success of A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, I have to assume that no time will be wasted getting Sunrise into motion – I doubt we'll hear much, but perhaps director Francis Lawrence will return to announce he's starting work.
A star announcement would be fun – the book follows young Haymitch Abernathy, played by Woody Harrelson in the original movie run, so who's a good young Woody? I would have said Paul Mescal, but it's set when Haymitch is just 16, and I'm not sure he can pull off quite that much of a youthful turn. It'll probably be one of the Stranger Things kids – maybe we'll find out later today.

Warner Bros Discovery is also holding its event today, and I suspect a big announcement will be a name and rough release plan for the sequel to The Batman.
The sequel was originally announced at CinemaCon 2022, believe it or not, and filming still hasn't started yet. Supposedly, the hope has been to film at the end of 2025 for a 2027 release, but reports said that the script wasn't finalized as of the start of 2025, so who knows.
Well, maybe all will be revealed soon.

The other announced-but-sort-of-unknown movie hanging over Warners' head is Dune Messiah. Originally, director Denis Villeneuve said he wanted a break before tackling the (likely) finale to the story, but seems to have changed his mind and is working straight on it.
So does that mean a 2026 or 2027 release date? Probably! If pre-production is in full swing, I would expect a big update on the galactic atrocities to come.

Amelia here to bring your attention to Darren Aaronsky's new film, Caught Stealing. The Austin Butler and Zoë Kravitz-starring flick had a trailer shown during the Sony presentation yesterday that sounds like it was a home run.
The movie is inspired by Charlie Huston's, who also wrote the script, series of books of the same name and will see Austin play a former baseball player who gets into trouble with the criminal underbelly of 1990s New York.

After seeing Colin Farrell's incredible transformation into the ruthless Oz Cobb for the HBO Original series The Penguin last year, I can't wait to see what his next role will be.
The Irish actor is taking on a very different type of character for his next film, and it sounds like it will pull on the heart strings. A Big Bold Beautiful Journey is an upcoming romantic drama that will see Farrell star alongside Margot Robbie as two strangers on a whimsical journey through their memories.
If this is anything like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, then I'll be making sure to have tissues at the ready when it releases in theaters in the US on September 19, 2025.

Amelia just messaged me to say "And now my watch has ended", which is my cue – hi, hello, I'm Tom Power, TechRadar's senior entertainment reporter – to take over.
Anyway! As we mentioned earlier, Warner Bros. Pictures' presentation is coming later today – that's 4:30PM PT / 7:30PM ET, to be exact. With numerous DC Universe (DCU) in post-production and/or currently being filmed, we could get a substantial update on some of the most exciting DCU Chapter One movies and TV shows around.
So, what could be revealed at CinemaCon 2025? I'm hoping for a new teaser for James Gunn's Superman movie. Failing that, I'd take a first look at Milly Alcock's Supergirl in her full superhero costume for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow or an update on Lanterns, which began filming last month. With so many rumors about the latter's cast circulating online, an official update to its roster wouldn't go amiss, please and thank you.

In the more immediate future, there are plenty of other exciting new films on the Warner Bros docket.
From the return of beloved horror movie series Final Destination in the form of Final Destination: Bloodlines (May 16) and the Brad Pitt-starring F1 Movie (June 27), to Leonardo DiCaprio's next film One Battle After Another (September 26) and Mortal Kombat 2 (October 24), there's a slew of great looking movies to keep tabs on.
Will Warner show us any new footage from any or all of the above? Hopefully! Don't be surprised if it showcases some movies set to arrive in April, too, including Michael B Jordan and Ryan Coogler's Sinners and Ben Affleck's The Accountant 2.

Alright, so Lionsgate's presentation is beginning shortly.
Before it does, though, a 'State of the Industry' panel is taking place. Indie studio Neon has kicked things off with a sizzle reel of its notable hits over the past 12 months, including the multi-award-winning Anora, as well as acclaimed horror films The Monkey and Longlegs, both of which were helmed by rising filmmaker Osgood Perkins.
Neon also showed some footage for two movies on its forthcoming slate, including Together and the Tom Hiddleston-starring The Life of Chuck. The latter is a film I'm really keen to see, so I'm hoping that a proper teaser is released soon-ish!
Every life is a universe all its own. New poster for Mike Flanagan's Stephen King movie, THE LIFE OF CHUCK. #CinemaCon pic.twitter.com/MpHciNOFBnApril 1, 2025

Well, it sounds like people enjoyed what the saw of Together and The Life of Chuck's brand-new trailers!
Where the latter is concerned, it's been helmed by Mike Flanagan and Stephen King – yes, the horror auteurs themselves! – but it isn't a scary or gross film. In fact, based on the reactions I've already seen online, some attendees have likened it to It's a Wonderful Life (one of my favorite films, FYI) in terms of its timeless and tear-jerking story. If I wasn't already excited for its release this June, I certainly am now!
As for Together: well, it's a romantic body horror movie that stars real-life couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie. Judging by what attendees are saying on social media, it drew visceral reactions from the assembled crowd, who erupted into applause once the trailer had ended. I'm sure our resident horror expert Lucy Buglass will be seated for this on day one!

Alas, I must already bid you all adieu – but, fear not, dear reader, for I leave you in the very capable hands of Jacob Krol and Al Griffin, who'll guide you through the rest of the day's events.
Until tomorrow when I'll be writing up a whole host of DCU and/or Ballerina news stories, then, farewell!

Tom Cruise is known as a champion not just of movies, but of the moviegoing experience. Cruise didn’t make an appearance at CinemaCon today, but a video message was played for attendees where he continued his push to save the theatrical experience for future generations:
“Seeing a movie on the big screens can change lives… the cultural impact of movie theaters can’t be matched… the story of cinema is an iconic one but it’s only just begun.”
Of course, we also want to hear more details about the forthcoming Mission Impossible –the Final Reckoning, which is scheduled for a May 2025 release. Let’s hope news on that release drops before CinemaCon wraps!

Lionsgate's event is now underway!
First up is, predictably, Ballerina – the John Wick spinoff starring Ana de Armas. Director Len Wiseman went on stage with de Armas to show off a new trailer that showcases extra footage of an intense kitchen fight scene that is glimpsed in the previous trailers, and has the innovative use of weapons that you'd hope for from a film in this series.
Ana de Armas is also describing the intense training and filming methods used in the movie to get everything looking physically right.
That may not be the only John Wick universe movie we hear about today – Indiewire says than animated prequel movie showing John Wick's 'impossible task' mission that originally got him out of the murder business is coming – and it doesn't appear to be an April Fool, even though it hasn't been mentioned on stage.
Director Francis Lawrence and all-round legend Mark Hamill are on-stage to discuss The Long Walk, which might sound like '90s Oscar bait, but is a "brutal" (according to Hamill) Stephen King adaptation about people who must keep walking because if they stop, they're killed.
Francis Lawrence is also the director of the Hunger Games movies, which is a big Lionsgate franchise, so will he be back for today as we predicted earlier?
welcome to the Second Quarter Quell. The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping – in cinemas November 20, 2026. pic.twitter.com/yGFq6z9a6sJune 6, 2024
Ah, no need for Francis Lawrence to come back – he's moving straight onto the announcement that The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping has been in pre-production for a while already, and is on something of a fast-track to movie reality – it's coming on September 20th, 2026.
It's an adaptation of the latest Hunger Games prequel book, which follows Haymitch Abernathy (Woody Harrelson in the originals) as a 16-year-old who – and I don't want to alarm you – has a very bad time in the Hunger Games.
People keep asking if he's back. And we didn't really have an answer. But yeah, I'm thinking he's back.
That John Wick animated movie has been announced, with Keanu Reeves and Wick regular director Chad Stahelski both involved. But that's all the information we really have for now.
Post by @jamesgunnView on Threads
Leaving Lionsgate for a moment, it certainly sounds like there'll be plenty of Superman info around this week, with James Gunn promising an extended preview.
A couple of quick ones: Luca Guadagnino, maker of 2024's best movie (don't @ me) Challengers popped in to confirm what we already knew: he's making a new adaption of American Psycho.
There was also a trailer for Aziz Ansari's directorial debut, Good Fortune, which stars (him again) Keanu Reeves as an angel who body swaps Ansari with his boss, Seth Rogen, to try to teach a lesson about money not buying happiness. It does not go as planned.
Finally. FINALLY. The sequel to magician… heist… thriller(??) Now You See Me should always, very obviously, have been called 'Now You Don't'. But it was called Now You See Me 2.
Well, the surprise-hit series' third instalment was just announced as Now You See Me: Now You Don't, so I can die happy. Or, at least, temporarily sated that this particular missed opportunity is no longer missed.
A trailer was shown that reveals the return of key cast, plus newcomer Dominic Sessa, breakout star of The Holdovers. He has kind of a Jesse Eisenberg energy in that movie, so we'll see how it translates here.
Ah, we have the lightest of teasers for Sunrise on the Reaping. Enjoy some mood-setting molten liquid and snake skin.

Incidentally, the Michael Jackson biopic, Michael was mentioned as still coming, but with no real information – it seems like it's had a lot of problems in production, so we'll have to wait to hear more.
Paul Feig – director of A Simple Favor and one of my all-time favorite comedies, Spy – has a new movie starring Amanda Seyfried and Sydney Sweeney called The Housemaid.
It's a book adaptation that bills itself as "An absolutely addictive psychological thriller with a jaw-dropping twist" in which a housemaid with a dark secret starts living with a family with a twisted matriarch, and the two clash in ways that Seyfried described as "bananas".
A first-look trailer was shown on-stage, though was light on plot.
The event is wrapping up, with the finale being a first look at Hurry Up Tomorrow, a stylish new thriller starring Jenna Ortega, Barry Keoghan and The Weeknd.
The Weeknd is then playing a set to round out the show, and it seems like that's everything Lionsgate has for us.

Warner Bros' event isn't until 4:30pm PT (7:30pm ET, 00:30am GMT), so there's a big pause until the next big flow of news – but we might get some tidbits in between.
Bigwigs from Neon and Universal will be on a panel later, for example. and might drop something juicy. Joseph Kosinksi, director of Top Gun: Maverick and (more pertinently) the upcoming F1 movie, is also on that panel.
Lionsgate's announcements was a solid set of stuff to look forward to, though I'd have loved a solid preview at the John Wick prequel.
But I'm totally on board for a Paul Feig thriller starring two of my favorite stars of today in Amanda Seyfried and Sydney Sweeney, and I enjoyed the last Hunger Games prequel, so I'm on board for more of the same.
I actually never got on with the Now You See Me movies, even though they couldn't not be more up my street – maybe I'll give them another go with the third coming, and I like Dominic Sessa, so here's hoping I'll come around.

In between the major keynotes at CinemaCon, I have some good news for fans of Dolby Cinema at AMC Theaters. While there are only a handful currently, the two brands announced on Monday, March 31, at CinemaCon that there will be a major expansion in the United States of these cinemas.
AMC Theaters will build and open 40 new Dolby Cinema screens in its theaters in the United States by the end of 2027. That’s close to a 25% increase in these auditoriums, and once complete, they will mean there are over 200 to watch and visit in the US.
I, for one, love Dolby Cinema – you get oversized, plush recliners but it’s all about the screen and audio. Thanks to a special projector, you get Dolby Vision on a massive scale with Dolby Atmos sound all around – these work together to really immerse you in the action. I even love the pre-roll showing the difference in color and sound in Dolby Cinema.
We’ll all need to eagerly wait and see where the new Dolby Cinema theaters are going.

Some further thoughts on director Luca Guadagnino adapting American Psycho from the acclaimed Bret Easton Ellis novel.
This isn’t the first time American Psycho has made it to the big screen. Back in 2000, director Mary Harron (I Shot Andy Warhol, The Notorious Bettie Page) delivered her own spin on Ellis’ novel, the highlight of which was a deliriously over-the-top performance by actor Christian Bale as deranged finance bro Patrick Bateman. According to Bloody Disgusting, Guadagnino stated at CinemaCon that no casting decisions have yet been made for the new American Psycho adaptation, but whoever gets to play Bateman will have some very big shoes to fill.
Hello! Matt Bolton, Managing Editor for Entertainment, tagging in here to take us through Warner Bros' announcements, which start in an hour.
And there's a lot that could come up today, because that company has a ton of stuff cooking.
We've already mentioned today the DCU, The Batman's sequel and Dune: Messiah. But WB has a really strong line on long-awaited sequels coming up, too.
Heat 2, I am Legend 2, Constantine 2, Alien Legion and The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum are all potentials to show up today.

Let's talk about I Am Legend 2 for a moment. This will supposedly star Will Smith reprising his role from the first movie, along with Michael B. Jordan. Supposedly, it won't follow the ending you saw in the movie originally, but instead an alternative ending that's closer to the book.
The director of the original, Francis Lawrence, is in Las Vegas right now, having appeared at the Lionsgate event earlier today. But given that he was promoting two movies he has in the works right now, and will be tied up with the new Hunger Games film for the foreseeable future, I'm guessing he won't be picking up this one unless the release date is a while away.

Heat 2 is the movie I'm really hoping to hear something concrete about. The original movie is one of my favorites of all time, and it's the 30th anniversary this year (I just saw a rep screening of it on the big screen in celebration).
A recent interview with Vulture revealed that writer/director Michael Mann has turned in a script, and there have been rumors for years that Adam Driver, Austin Butler and Oscar Isaac are set to star, so maybe we'll finally get confirmation of any of that.
I also can't recommend that interview enough if you're a fan of Mann, by the way.

Let's talk about The Batman's sequel. When the original came out, I was pretty middling on it – I loved Pattinson, the cinematography, the score, the overall vibe. I nearly fell out with a friend, however, when I called it "Baby's first Se7en", but I still think that's basically true.
Still, it sat well with me long term, and I've rewatched it when I want a movie I'm fond of to just wash over me – and it doesn't hurt that it's on regular rotation as one of the movies we use to test TVs.
So I've started to really look forward to the sequel, especially since it's not being rushed out, and the end of the original means it could go almost anywhere.
The big question is who the villains might be, since that'll tie strongly into the plot. I suspect it's unlikely to go wildly into the 'supervillain' tone, though I wouldn't bet against it. I also suspect that Barry Keoghan as Joker is probably not going to happen, although again it'd be stupid to rule it out (and Barry's in Las Vegas, having appeared for the cast reveal of The Beatles movies).
I think the best fit would be the Black Mask, a villain not used in any main Batman movies (an appearance in Birds of Prey is his only big-screen showing), but he really fits The Batman's tone.
He was a kind of mirror of Bruce Wayne, the son of a rich family who was forced to befriend the Waynes but hated them for being phoney. His family also died – but he killed them. He built a business empire, but it was a disaster in every sense, and Bruce Wayne saved it and forced him out. He eventually becomes a sadistic gang boss.
All of which sounds like the perfect fit to keep exploring the Thomas Wayne scandal and crime power vacuums left open at the end of The Batman.

Do you think we'll hear anything about the long-mooted Akira movie, which WB has the rights for? Taiki Waititi was attached, then left it to make Thor: Love and Thunder, then supposedly was coming back to it after the Star Wars movie he was scheduled to make, which also seems to have vanished into the ether – but no word on him re-appearing on Akira after that.
Given the budget involved, I suspect it's fully on ice unless a really strong directorial name comes along to warrant it. James Cameron was attached once, and while there's no chance he comes back as long as he's working on roughly 27 Avatar movies, he's the right kind of name.
I suspect it'll go unmentioned, but you never know – maybe a Jordan Peele or Ryan Coogler will have put their name forward, assuming Taika's no longer involved.

I am assuming that we'll get some Supergirl information today – we've had our star, Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon), for a few months, so it's probably time for a bit of footage – perhaps in in Superman, or perhaps some early clips from her own movie is ready enough.
At the very least, I'd expect a costume reveal and some chat about the tone of that movie.

I'm expecting to see Wuthering Heights here today. The new adaptation is coming from Saltburn and Promising Young Woman director Emerald Fennell, and stars Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi.
It supposedly wrapped filming last month, so some kind of first-look reel seems likely, and will maybe give people a good glimpse into what kind of tone to expect. Fennell's movies are not exactly known for their bland approach to the topics they touch on…
Alright, five minutes to go, just enough time to hope that Kevin Costner's Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2 and 3 get release dates and not just completely buried here, despite Chapter 1 bombing horribly. Because we really need to let these visionaries cook, and I've heard very good things about Chapter 2 from the few people who've seen it.
While we wait for things to actually start, you could check out the trailer for Hurry Up Tomorrow, mentioned earlier, in which The Weeknd is playing a version of himself, and Jenna Ortega plays a stranger who comes into his life and causes him to lose his mind.
And Barry Keoghan is playing the normal best friend, seemingly? I feel like that bit will turn out not to be true…
We are still waiting for things to properly start, but it appears that the stars and director of Superman are hanging around. Hm, I wonder if the movie that apparently the whole future of DC Studios has been staked on will feature heavily…
The New Line Cinema logo has appeared, which is attached to The Lord of the Rings, Dune and (apparently the one I've really become hopeful for, for some reason) Horizon movies.
Not only those, of course, but I truly doubt we'll get away from this with none of these movies appearing.
In case you weren't aware that another LotR movie is in the works, it's called The Hunt for Gollum, and is set to be directed by Andy Serkis, featuring Gandalf heavily. It's been slated for a 2027 release, so a brief tease today is probably all we can hope for… not that all LotR fans would use the word 'hope' there, I suspect.
Imminent releases Sinners (from director Ryan Coogler and starring Michael B. Jordan) and A Minecraft Movie (directed by Jared Hess of Napoleon Dynamite fame, inexplicably, and starring Jack Black equally inexplicably) are getting some time in the sun before we move onto future events.
We're starting with Paul Thomas Anderson's next film, One Battle After Another – a black comedy based partially on the novel Vineland, starring Leonardo DiCaprio.
There's a good early look going on, expanding on the phone scene from the trailer below, with stars Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor and Leo discussing making the movie.
The movie is about a former armed revolutionary needing to track down his daughter after she's taken by an old enemy, and looks like quite the mix of PTA weirdness and drama in its first trailer from a few days ago.

Next up is The Bride! – that's their exclamation mark, not mine, though I'm looking forward to this one. It's Maggie Gyllenhaal's directorial follow-up to The Lost Daughter, and is a fresh take on The Bride of Frankenstein.
It star Jessie Buckley, Christian Bale and Penélope Cruz , three actors who I can never get too much of. It's a musical, and is getting an IMAX release, and the early looks seems to be going for some serious sensory overload, and I can't wait.
Buckley and Gyllenhaal are talking about the movie on-stage, using plenty of appropriate puns, as you can see below.
'Firstly, when I read Maggie's script, it was like being plugged into an electrical current.' - Jessie Buckley #CinemaCon #CinemaCon2025April 2, 2025
Richard Brener, President and CCO of @newlinecinema, joins us next. #CinemaCon #CinemaCon2025April 2, 2025
It's New Line time – let's go, Horizon-heads and, uh, Gollum Groupies.
Footage of sequels Final Destination: Bloodlines, The Conjuring: Last Rites, and Mortal Kombat II is shown, and we've got some release windows later in the year for these movies. I have not seen the new Mortal Kombat, but I hear it's pretty good!
Last Rites is coming in September, MK II is coming in October (I'd have put the horror one in October personally, but okay).
Weapons (the new movie from the director of Barbarian) also makes an appearance.
Mortal Kombat II is set for release in October 2025 and The Conjuring: Last Rites is set to release in September 2025. #CinemaCon #CinemaCon2025April 2, 2025
There was a pretty extended and hardcore Final Destination clip, but everything's okay now, because we're moving onto Weapons, the new movie from the director of [checks notes] Barbarian!? Oh boy.
Zach Cregger is on-stage, introducing a teaser that apparently won't be released afterwards – just one for those in the room, cruelly. Or maybe not, depending on what's on it.
Let me allow Wikipedia to give you a succinct summary of whatWeapons is about: "the disappearance of school kids in the middle of the night, police corruption, generational trauma, witchcraft, blood rituals, and religious abuse".
Or an even more succinct note about the footage from Kaitlyn Booth over at BleedingCool: "Big win for the fans or not of scary kids".

Anyway we're onto the F1 movie now, and the news that Brad Pitt actually drove at 180mph to capture the footage. Director Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick and Tron: Legacy) is introducing the full first 10 minutes of the movie – though I suspect even the Las Vegas Colosseum arena at Caesar's won't really produce the full IMAX experience.
I'm concerned that moving onto this extended F1 break means we have fully passed the New Line portion of our event, especially since we haven't even touched DC Studios yet.
No Gollum, no Horizons, no Dune? I really will be amazed if we get through with any word on the latter, but right now it's looking like three strikes from my list.
BTW, there are hints floating around the internet of some of the deaths from Final Destination: Bloodlines. Don't read 'em.
It's like the Saw movies, you want to go in not knowing what kind of crazy stuff you're in line for.

Next up is DC Animation, with some footage from Dynamic Duo, the Robin x Robin movie coming up, about the relationship between Dick Grayson and Jason Todd. The Batman's Matt Reeves is involved in this one, and the looks appears to be pretty striking.
A bunch of footage from other upcoming animated movies was also shown, and they're talking about how The Cat in the Hat expands beyond the book, which always goes great…
Having said that, Oh, The Places You'll Go! is one of the movies coming up, and that's my favorite Seuss book, and that's definitely going to require some expansion into a full movie if it's going to work. I think it gives you a lot of room to play while being true to the book's message of bravely heading out into the scary world, so I'll give it a chance.
There's a full trailer for The Cat in the Hat shown, though it seems to be unfinished, so we may not see it outside of CinemaCon for a while. The movie is coming in February 2026.

It's DC o'clock, and specifically it's Superman time! James Gunn and Peter Safran are there, and there's a juicy featurette about the film's production that all seems very heartwarming.
New looks at Metamorpho and Hawkgirl were shown at the #SUPERMAN CinemaCon presentation pic.twitter.com/o0AmEhyw4lApril 2, 2025
They have called it 'The summer of Superman'. Fair to say even the gentle chat that's happened so far is getting some people excited.
BRING ON SUMMER OF #Superman #CinemaCon #CinemaCon2025 pic.twitter.com/2M2iCGAJIkApril 2, 2025
Apparently, James Gunn was offered a Superman movie back in 2018, but went for The Suicide Squad instead. A great movie!
And then we got the divisive (but in my opinion excellent) Guardians Vol. 3 – and Superman got to time to brew to perfection, we hope.
Anyway, in case you missed it, there'll be an extended preview of Superman with A Minecraft Movie in theaters if you want to see more. A cynical person might wonder if this is partly to help bolster the popularity of the abominable-looking film.

David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan and Nicholas Hoult are speaking very sweetly about their time making the movie. The whole vibe here seems to be that they want you to know how earnest and uplifting this will be in contrast to the self-serious and dramatic superhero movies we've become shackled to.
'We shot a scene walking through a field at night and the moon was shining behind you (David) and the cape was blowing in the wind.' - Rachel Brosnahan on a memorable moment of @Superman filming #CinemaCon #CinemaCon2025April 2, 2025
There's perhaps a little too much hyping of how Corenswet is definitely a vision of heroism in the cape. Don't worry, Rachel and Nicholas, the Henry Cavill stans only have so much influence, they can't bring you down.
'David dressed as Superman, is flying into the sunset... and I felt like I was witnessing the magic of cinema in first person, in real time.' - Nicholas Hoult on one of his most memorable experiences of filming #CinemaCon #CinemaCon2025April 2, 2025
David says if he could play another DC role he would play Batman. Rachel would play Lex Luthor. Nicholas says 'Well, I auditioned for Batman AND Superman...'. #CinemaCon #CinemaCon2025April 2, 2025
Oh, they are all very cute together. Shame Hoult's gonna be so mean to them when the movie comes out.
Strong 'The other guy who was in Amelia Earhart's plane who no one ever remembers' sartorial look from Hoult at this event.
Brosnahan, meanwhile, is wearing a newspaper-styled Galliano dress. She said she spoke to real journalists for the role, and I can only assume they all said they wear that kind of thing. I'm wearing my live blog formal shirt right now, I know it to be true.
At #CinemaCon, the stars of #Superman share which DC characters they would like to play outside of their own: David Corenswet - #Batman Rachel Brosnahan - Lex Luthor ("And I'd shave my head")Nicholas Hoult - "Well I auditioned for both Batman and Superman" pic.twitter.com/nET5zJNKHcApril 2, 2025
In more sneak peek footage, they're showing an extended version of the snowy Krypto scene from the trailer. Superman is helped by some friendly robots in the Fortress of Solitude, in a sort of 'The Return of Superman' style. Don't think he'll have the awesome long hair afterwards like in that series, though.
That's all, folks – as a certain WB icon says. No Dune: Messiah, no The Hunt for Gollum, no Supergirl, no The Batman sequel.
But The Bride! looks killer (and then reviver), Final Destination: Bloodlines looks like a return to grisly form, and Superman was heartwarming and absolute cinema to produce.
I'll see you tomorrow for Universal, Focus Features and Amazon's MGM Studios. Is the future of James Bond about to be unveiled? We'll find out.

All anyone seems to be talking about is James Gunn's Superman, the John Wick animated prequel and the Sydney Sweeney-starring new thriller The Housemaid following yesterday's round of movie announcements from WBD and Lionsgate.
But it's a new day and that means there's more movie news on the way! We'll be keeping an eye out for any reactions from today's screening of Universal Pictures and DreamWork's live-action reimagining of the beloved animation How to Train Your Dragon. After Disney's latest Snow White tanked at the box office, I can imagine a lot of folks are a bit nervous about another live-action remake...
Universal Pictures will later take the stage again with Focus Features to give us a preview of their upcoming slate of films before Amazon MGM Studios wraps up the day's events with its own movie update.
That's all happening from 9.30 PT / 12:30 ET to 20:00 PT / 1:00 ET, so we've got a bit of time before then.

CinemaCon has been the place for theater owners to get together every year since 2011, so it's big news that Amazon MGM Studio's will make its debut this year!
Since Amazon bought the movie business in 2022, it has been quietly building up its portfolio – most notably with the landmark deal to acquire creative control of the entire James Bond franchise – and it seems like it's now ready to make a splash.
That's according to an interview with Amazon MGM Studios' new head of film Courtenay Valenti with The New York Times that reveals plans to release 14 to 16 new films in theaters each year – with another 12 set to be made for Prime Video.
With plans to make its own international distribution arm, Amazon is clearly banking on the idea that licensing these films will become a core part of its revenue, especially seeing as box office sales are still far below what they were pre-pandemic.
It seems, then, that we're in store for a busy announcement when Valenti takes the stage later today. Will we hear anything about which actor will play Bond in a new film? Most likely not. But there's plenty in the pipeline what with Michael B Jordan directing a reboot of The Thomas Crown Affair, a live-action Masters of the Universe film and an adaptation of Andy Weir’s Project Hail Mary in the works, which I'm personally pumped for as I couldn't put this book down (definitely go read it!).
While we wait, here's what's coming to Prime Video in April:
New month 🤝 new favorites to watch. pic.twitter.com/4ctMkWraK5April 1, 2025

Universal Pictures will share the stage with Focus Features later today, so what can we expect the studios to talk about?
Well, there's absolutely no way we won't hear a mention of Christopher Nolan. Every actor in Hollywood wants to be his best friend since we heard about his next project to adapt Homer's epic poem The Odyssey. This one's not out till 2026 though, so I doubt we'll hear very much in the way of news.
What we could more likely see is an update about Wes Anderson's upcoming film The Phoenician Scheme, which is getting a limited release in theaters in the US on May 30, 2025, with plans to expand on June 6, 2025. Bring on those pastel tones!
Later this year in November, Yorgos Lanthimos will release his new sci-fi-comedy Bugonia to theaters in the US and Canada. It'll be the latest collaboration between the filmmaker and Emma Stone, following Poor Things, so I'm excited to see this one, especially with Jesse Plemons on board. It's meant to be about a CEO that's kidnapped under suspicions that she's an alien about to destroy Earth – what more could we ask for?
Let's look at Universal Pictures' 2025 movie lineup for a moment.
We have a new thriller from Christopher Landon, who's known for horror flicks like Paranormal Activity and Happy Death Day. Drop sounds like it will be a first date from your nightmares and is coming to theaters on April 11, 2025, so there's next weekend's plans sorted.
In June, we can expect the live-action How To Train Your Dragon remake and a sequel to the terrifying humanoid doll Megan 2.0 in cinemas. But it's July that I'm most excited for because we're getting a new Jurassic World movie! This is meant to take a completely new direction from the previous trilogy, which means a rewatch of the Jurassic Park films is definitely on the cards in the coming months.
Later this year, we can expect a lot of sequels, with The Bad Guys 2, Nobody 2, Gabby's Dollhouse: The Movie, The Black Phone 2, Wicked: For Good and Five Nights at Freddy's 2 all set to premiere – in fact, it's only the movie Him that's not a sequel being released from Universal in the second half of 2025.

Over at Focus Features, its upcoming movie pipeline is relatively light.
Aside from the already mentioned Wes Anderson film The Phoenician Scheme and Yorgos Lanthimos' sci-fi-comedy Bugonia, there's only one other big flick that's on the way from the studio this year.
And that's the third installment of the historical drama Downton Abbey. Fans of the series and previous films can expect the last chapter to arrive in cinemas on September 12, 2025. Who knows, we might even get a sneak peek of Downtown Abbey: The Grand Finale later today.
Robert Eggers' next horror movie Werwulf is also in production, but that's not expected to see the light of day until 2026.
New here? If you missed the start of CinemaCon yesterday, then don't worry because we've been keeping track of all the big movie announcements.
There are some great recap videos from Cinema United that were posted on CinemaCon's Instagram to give you a quick run through of all the biggest news from Sony Pictures' and Lionsgate's presentations.
There's no recap out yet for WBD, but if we had to narrow it down, we'd highlight the new Superman movie, two new Spider-Man films, Brad Pitt's F1, the fifth John Wick movie, Final Destination Bloodlines, the next Hunger Games installment, four Beatles films and Now You See Me: Now You Don't as some of the most exciting new movies on the way that we've heard about during the event so far.

I, Tom Power, have come back to you, dear reader, at the turn of the tide! Or, rather, to take over this live blog for the next 90 minutes or so.
Now, I know that Matt and/or Amelia (I don't know who posted it, and I'm not going to ask!) mentioned we aren't likely to learn anything new about what Amazon is planning to do with its recently-acquired James Bond franchise. Nonetheless, I live in hope that we'll learn something about what the tech giant is going to do with 007.
There's no chance that Amazon will shockingly reveal the next incumbent to play the legendary British spy. It would've leaked online by now if such an announcement was going to be made. However, it would be good to hear from newly-installed Bond overseers Amy Pascal and David Heyman, and how they're aiming to reboot the character once more.

If Amazon MGM Studios don't leave us *ahem* shaken and stirred over some Bond news, there's plenty it could discuss during its presentation.
Personally, I'm hoping to learn more about acclaimed director Luca Guadagnino's next feature After the Hunt. The thriller, which stars The Bear's Ayo Edebiri and Spider-Man alumnus Andrew Garfield, is an upcoming thriller that sounds pretty intriguing.
Guadagnino is responsible for hit films like Call Me By Your Name and Challengers. While his latest flick Queer wasn't received as well as it could've been, I'm still confident that his next movie will have us all raving again.
Failing that, we may find out more about the Chris Pratt and Rebecca Ferguson-starring sci-fi film Mercy, Hugh Jackman's next theatrical outing in animated mystery-comedy Three Bags Full, or the Ryan Gosling-fronted sci-fi flick Project Hail Mary. Those features, alongside Amazon's Masters of the Universe live-action movie, are all set to arrive in 2026, so it might be a bit early to see or hear more about any or all of those.
Okay, Universal Pictures' first presentation of the day is later, so I'm going to hand our live blog over to my colleagues.
Catch you all tomorrow for the final day of this year's event, which will see Paramount and Disney close out CinemaCon 2025!

Hello! Matt Bolton, Managing Editor for Entertainment here, picking up the gauntlet for the next event.
We're building up to the joint event from Universal Pictures, DreamWorks and Focus Features. There are tons of potential movies that we'll hear about from the Las Vegas CinemaCon halls, but there are two I'd gamble all my money on appearing: Wicked: For Good and Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey.
Let's start with The Odyssey. I doubt we'll see Nolan himself appear on stage for this one, since the movie is in the middle of filming around Europe – though the man does love to talk about the theatrical experience, and there's no better place to do that than CinemaCon.
My guess is that we'll get a nice video message focusing on the IMAX experience and how it'll be the only way to get the full effect of his new movie.
I know, I know, I'm really out on a limb with that one.
Let's move on to Wicked: For Good for a bit. The second part is due out on November 21, 2025, but we haven't seen a trailer for it yet – that'll all change within the next couple of hours, for sure.
I wouldn't be surprised if the trailer becomes available online shortly after its reveal, rather than remaining an exclusive for those in the room, but we'll see.
Speaking of movies coming out pretty soon that haven't had any footage revealed yet: M3GAN 2.0 is out on June 27th. There's a teaser trailer, but I don't count that, because nothing her seems to be from the movie.
I loved M3GAN – I knew me and that movie were going to get on just great within the first few seconds of the Paul Verhoeven-esque commercial that opens it. And it actually had some truly interesting ideas about letting gadgets and algorithms 'raise' kids – and bear in mind that ChatGPT hadn't even launched yet at that time, so there's a vast fresh AI hell to mine now.
However, it's a bit concerning that we haven't seen anything of it yet, just a few months before it's out. That might mean it's a total banger, or that they lost confidence in it… or none of the above, and they just decided on a later media campaign.
In any case, I bet we get the trailer, a good amount of chat about the movie and maybe a dancing appearance from the lady herself.
DreamWorks will, inevitably, mean Shrek 5 emerges from the swamp. Maybe we'll get some glimpses of the actual movie, though I wouldn't be surprised if the focus is mostly on behind-the-scenes footage.
I'm picturing clips of Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz and Zendaya in the recording booth. Maybe some unveiling of other cast members, including cameos and returning faves.
The Fast & Furious franchise has faced a finicky future following Fast X. The meek reception to the movie seemed to cause a major wobble behind the scenes, so instead of cruising straight into the second part following the (frankly dubious) cliffhanger at the end, everything's been in limbo.
Vin Diesel, of course, has been pushing for movement to happen. He recently posted a picture of himself wearing a Toretto-related shirt – a hint that things are happening, surely??
Well, the man has a habit of attempting to manifest what he wants with confident posts on Insta, rather than these posts reflecting things that are actually happening.
But with Fast X: Part 2 being mooted for a 2026 release, now could be the moment for Vin to walk out triumphantly on stage to announce the follow-up is in motion – perhaps he'll even deign to share the stage with Dwayne Johnson…

After the recent animated Super Mario Bros Movie movie collected so many coins that everyone involved has enough 1-Ups to see the heat death of the universe, it's no surprise that the sequel is on the way.
It's scheduled for a 2026 appearance, but given the buzz around the Nintendo Switch 2's full detail reveal today, I'd be amazed if they don't want to build on that with some hints at the Mario sequel too.
It might just be as simple as a name. 'Super Mario Bros Odyssey' is probably not on the table for fear of Christopher Nolan beating someone to a pulp using a reel of IMAX film if they try it, but 'New Super Mario Bros Movie' is right there if they want it…
BTW, I should probably caveat my sweeping predictions by pointing out that my record for predictions in the Warner Bros event yesterday was atrocious. I mean truly abysmal. If I weren't the one deciding who gets to write this stuff, I'd probably have been pulled from duty. But here we are.
15 minutes until the event starts! Let's talk about humans interacting with large CGI lizard-y things.
The live-action How to Train Your Dragon movie was shown in full to willing CinemaCon attendees earlier today, so I'm sure we'll hear more about it at the event too – it's out on June 13th.
And Jurassic World Rebirth will no doubt get some love, given its July 2nd release date. The trailer for the movie already covers a lot of dinosaur ground – it looks more like a regular action movie that had the Jurassic World name applied than something written for the franchise, but will I watch Mahershala Ali and Scarlett Johansson try to survive dinosaurs? Yes, I probably will.
Let's do a quick horror sequel catch up! Universal has The Black Phone 2 and Five Nights at Freddy's 2 on its roster for this year, plus a new Exorcist movie coming from thoughtful horror maestro Mike Flanagan.
Flanagan's Doctor Sleep, the sequel to The Shining, is an absolutely astounding movie – the kind of thing that just pops in my mind all the time unbidden since I saw it. The potential for him to nail an Excorcist movie is huge.
These movies are all coming from Universal's partnership with Blumhouse, and the pair also have SOULM8TE coming, a supposed spin-off from M3GAN – perhaps we'll get a hint of what's coming there, too.
I am also seeing that Universal is working on an as-yet-unnamed movie with an upstart director called Steven Spielberg. It's scheduled for June 12th, 2026, and is written by frequent collaborator David Koepp.
I have recently loved Koepp's work on his back-to-back movies with Steven Soderbergh, Presence and Black Bag. I am also now suddenly remembering that I quite like Spielberg's movies too.
Supposedly, Josh O'Connor, Emily Blunt and Colman Domingo may star in it, so that sounds like quite a lot of charisma. Today seems like the perfect moment to give us some details.
Here we go! Universal is starting right on time, unlike Warner Bros yesterday. I presume you don't get to screw around with punctuality when you're Christopher Nolan's studio of choice. He's got a thing about time, y'know.
And the @UniversalPics presentation is beginning with....a FULL live orchestra on stage as we are joined by Mike Knobloch, President, Music and Publishing. #CinemaCon #CinemaCon2025April 2, 2025
The crowd is being treated to some classic Universal movie scores and footage, but we're not here for the past, Universal. What have you done for me lately?
A lot of these are from Spielberg movies, if the man doesn't appear today it's a crime. Here's Donna Langley, anyway, the key head honcho.
We are promised lots of trailers and footage of upcoming movies. That'll do for me, let's get into it.
Jurassic World Rebirth is up first, with Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali and director Gareth Edwards appearing on-stage to show some new looks at the movie.
Gareth Edwards is a VFX master, and apparently was an intense Jurassic Park fan as a kid. He supposedly wanted to make this movie as realistic as possible – I'll be curious to know if they employed model work (ie, the reason the first one still looks so good) if he leaned fully into his CGI skills.
'I told them I would play any role even if I was eaten in the first five minutes.' - Scarlett Johansson #CinemaCon #CinemaCon2025April 2, 2025
Johansson says they wanted to bring the scares back to the Jurassic movies in the new one. Which I'm largely on board with, but the magic of the first one was having that matched with the majesty and wonder of seeing things that seemed impossible. In a CGI world, everything seems so possible – I hope they can round out the movie in some other way (all the other sequels have struggled badly with this).
The extended look at movie footage that's now being shown won't answer this question, but we'll all find out in July.
It's DreamWorks now, and they're talking about Gabby's Dollhouse. I have no idea what this is, and following a quick Google, I think that's probably okay. It appears to be wildly popular though, so I'm happy for the people involved.
The Bad Guys 2 is next. There's a clip of the movie presented by Awkwafina and the always-charming Craig Robinson. This time, The Bad Guys will face off against The Bad Girls. It's coming August 1st.
Awkwafina and @MrCraigRobinson are here to talk about The Bad Guys 2! #CinemaCon #CinemaCon2025April 2, 2025
The live-action How to Train Your Dragon movie is getting its time on-stage, following its showing earlier in the day. The first one isn't even out yet, but the buzz is good enough that the sequel is already pencilled in for 2027!
'How to Train Your Dragon 2' Live-Action Remake Coming to Theaters in 2027 https://t.co/psGUevqlBHApril 2, 2025
We've now segued over to horror movie HIM, which suggests we've left the DreamWorks portion of the evening – no Shrek 5 to be seen.
HIM is produced by Jordan Peele, and follows a young football player who gets the chance to train with a legendary quarterback – but like a few recent movies (Opus) meeting your idol turns out to be a lot weirder than you'd hope.
The first footage is being shown, and it's coming out on September 19th.

Bob Odenkirk's here with the the Nobody 2 trailer, which has a ton of action, plus Sharon Stone as his nemesis crime kingpin, which I could not be more on board with. It's out August 15th,
Hutch is back. #Nobody2 hits theaters August 15. pic.twitter.com/QCAbPcVWR5April 2, 2025
Time to get classy with Focus Features. The final Downton Abbey movie gets namechecked, as does Bugonia from Yorgos Lanthimos (Poor Things) and The Phoenician Scheme from Wes Anderson (you know, all those movies) – in fact, more than namechecked, they're all getting sneak peeks.
An exclusive first look of ALL THREE films (@DowntonAbbey: The Grand Finale, Bugonia, and The Phoenician Scheme) is now being shown. #CinemaCon #CinemaCon2025April 2, 2025
Alright, the classy stuff is over; Jason Blum of Blumhouse is here in costume as Freddy from the Five Nights franchise.
He's talking about the imminent release of Drop – which is one of my most-anticipated movies of the year because it's from the director of Happy Death Day, which I loved – and then sequels to three of Blumhouse's biggest movies.
Expect M3GAN 2.0, The Black Phone 2, and obviously FNAF 2 – in fact, this just dropped on Twitter, promising a December release.
The countdown begins now. #FNAF2Movie only in theaters this December pic.twitter.com/frDc1I9L3KApril 3, 2025
There's been a first look at FNAF 2, and now the reveal that The Black Phone 2 is coming in October, with a trailer.
If you're wondering how that film has a sequel, they very reasonably point out that death isn’t the end in the world of the movie. Ethan Hawke is back, and it's set at a winter camp as he hunts the kids who took him down in the first movie.
30 dancing M3GAN's have taken the stage at #CinemaCon, dancing to Britney Spears' 'Oops!... I Did It Again' pic.twitter.com/6SRZg3TLV8April 3, 2025
M3GAN 2.0 time! There are dozens of M3GANs on stage dancing to Britney Spears, as you'd hope for a reveal for this movie.
(I call this movie Muh-three-gan in my mind every time I write it, so as to ensure I get it right.)
M3GAN will be used by the military to take down another killer android who makes her look positively chilled. Alas, she is not positively chilled, she still wants to kill poor Allison Williams. But I love a bit of villain-on-villain action, so let's gooooo…
Ah, and we're not out of the world of M3GAN yet. Jason Blum is back with James Wan to introduce SOULM8TE, the only movie with a dumber name than M3GAN.
What if you tried to use M3GAN-style tech to make home helper/relationship robot? How would that go? Maybe super-well? Well this movie supposes: probably not.
Sara rapidly becomes obsessed with her owner, and won't let pesky things like human life stand in her way. It's coming in January 2026.
We seem to be blasting through some light updates on major 2026 movies! The Mario sequel in April, Spielberg's still-mysterious movie in June, Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey and Minions 3 in July (the latter is not from Nolan, to be clear – more's the pity), and Shrek 5 in December.
We're running low on time here, I have to assume Wicked: For Good is imminent and will finish the show off…
Ah, yes, here's Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, continuing the year's most persistent double-act. We're out of Oscar-campaigning mode, and into "Please don't ignore this sequel even though it doesn't have Defying Gravity in it" mode.
The first clips of Wicked: For Good are being shown to the crowd right now.
CinemaCon will be THE FIRST AUDIENCE EVER to see footage from @wickedmovie For Good! #CinemaCon #CinemaCon2025April 3, 2025
Universal shows the first look at #WickedForGood at #CinemaCon: It opens with cracking windows around Glinda in the Emerald City. "Elphaba, I know you're here...Just come out before the monkeys spot you," says Ariana Grande. "This is between us, the wizard and I," says Cynthia… pic.twitter.com/dNjc9q4oydApril 3, 2025
No surprise, Wicked: For Good seems like it'll pretty closely match the broad vibe of the original, though the trailer seems a little less afraid of being a music than the early Wicked trailers, hinting at several of the songs.
And that's it from Universal! No Nolan or Spielberg, but lots of Blumhouse, and some musical magic.
We'll be back for Amazon MGM's event later – we're expecting you, Mr Bond. (Though maybe not a lot of detail about you.)
For those keen on the next presentation, MGM's CinemaCon event will begin at 8:15PM PT / 11:15PM ET! We're expecting updates on its slate of upcoming films, including After the Hunt and Project Hail Mary, and maybe even some James Bond news if we're lucky.
Zac here from the TechRadar Australia team, and Amazon MGM's presentation is about to begin! Like everybody, I'm holding out for some Bond news, but I'm also keen on some Masters of the Universe announcements too.
Amazon MGM's presentation is underway, kicking off with footage from Project Hail Mary, starring Ryan Gosling. It's set to release on March 20, 2026.
Head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios Mike Hopkins has taken to the stage, announcing that 14 working titles are lined up for release next year.
A teaser of Michael Showalter's upcoming romance-thriller Verity was just shown, along with footage from Michael B. Jordan's upcoming remake of crime-thriller The Thomas Crown Affair.
Andrew Garfield, Ayo Edebiri and director Luca Guadagino have just come to the stage to talk psychological drama After The Hunt, with a sneak peek shown to the crowd.

Three Bags Full: A Sheep Detective Movie, a detective mystery following sheep trying to solve the murder of their shepherd, is up next. Video messages from cast members Hugh Jackman and Emma Thompson are playing on the screen. It's expected to release on February 20, 2026.
Following the sheep flick, Crime 101 is now being talked about. The film, starring Halle Berry and Chris Hemsworth, is a crime thriller following a detective tracking a jewel thief – one that is following the 'Crime 101' rules for pulling off a heist. An exclusive sneak peek is being shown to the crowd, and a release is marked for 2025.
Director Bart Layton says that from the very beginning, this movie was written, imagined, planned and dreamed for the big screen. #CinemaCon #CinemaCon2025April 3, 2025
Next up is Is God Is, a genre-blending adaption of a stage play with the same name, directed and written by its original playwright Aleshea Harris (who makes her directorial debut). Footage was shown to the crowd, with the film being part afropunk, spaghetti western and greek tragedy. It stars Kara Young, Mallori Johnson and Vivica A. Fox.
Head of theatrical and streaming film at Prime Video and Amazon studios Courtenay Valenti has taken to the stage, along with marketing chief Sue Kroll. They're followed by a message from Mahershala Ali, who talks about Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother. The film is being directed by Bassam Tariq, with the two previously linked by Marvel's upcoming Blade reboot.
Masters of the Universe! A sneak peek was just played for the audience, along with a quick video from the set in London, with concept art and crew shown. The Travis Knight-directed film is set to release on June 5, 2026.
The cast of The Accountant 2 have arrived! Ben Affleck, Lynette Howell, Jon Bernthal, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Daniella Pineda and director Gavin O'Connor are on the stage, with an extended trailer for the Affleck flick playing. This movie is only around the corner, releasing on April 25, 2025.

And that's a wrap for Amazon MGM's packed presentation! We didn't get to see anything new on the James Bond front, but plenty of awesome other projects are on the way over the next year. Things begin again tomorrow, with Paramount Pictures showcasing its upcoming slate at 10AM PT / 1PM ET, followed by Disney at 2:30PM PT / 5:30pm ET.
My favourite part of the evening was learning about the upcoming Masters of the Universe film – I can't wait to see it. Tune in tomorrow for more news out of CinemaCon!

Actually, just a little Bond news for you. Amazon MGM is planning the next installment of 007 to be fresh and exotic. It's being helmed by Amy Pascal and David Heyman, who have already started work in London.
"We are committed to honoring the legacy of this iconic character while bringing a fresh, exotic new chapter to audiences around the world," head of theatrical and streaming film at Prime Video and Amazon Studios Courtenay Valenti said.

One last bit of news! I Play Rocky is in production, following a young Sylvester Stallone during the development of Rocky. It's a drama directed by Peter Farrelly, and a release date is still to be announced.

That’s a wrap on Cinemacon 2025 🎬 What are you most excited to see? pic.twitter.com/02oCDn2vFpApril 3, 2025
CinemaCon 2025 is nearly over. With only one more day of presentations to come, what can we expect from today's schedule?
Aside from some morning panel discussions about how to drive more ticket sales at the box office and better utilize AI tech in theaters, the biggest announcements will come from Paramount Pictures and Walt Disney Studios.
It's Amelia here, taking over the reigns to keep you posted on what new movies we expect to be discussed during these presentations later. Paramount Pictures is set to start at 10:00am PT / 13:00pm ET, while Walt Disney Studios is due at 14:30pm PT / 17:30pm ET, so get your calendars marked and ready.
Let's get some preamble going shall we? Paramount Pictures is set to take the stage later to talk about its upcoming movies and I think I have some ideas of what it might announce.
We've already heard from Tom Cruise earlier this week and while there was no mention of his next Mission Impossible film then, I think that will change today. Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is scheduled to hit theaters on May 23, 2025, so we'll hopefully get more of a sneak peek of what we can expect from the final chapter of this two-part film series.
This movie marks the eighth installment in a long running franchise and I don't expect it will be the last – even if they did change the movie's title from 'Dead Reckoning Part Two' to 'Final Reckoning'. Cruise has put Paramount on a mission – if it chooses to accept it – to make even more from these spy action hits and with many of the films being a hit at the box office, I don't see why they wouldn't keep Ethan Hunt on the payroll.

Okay, okay, I know Paramount Pictures' next big movie of the year is of course the Smurfs that's coming to cinemas on July 18, but I'm much more excited for another film that the studio is working on.
Anyone remember Arnie in The Running Man? I love a bit of silly 80s action and this classic is dripping in it. Whether a remake will retain that kitsch aesthetic is of course not necessary, but apparently Edgar Wright is going to make it more closer to Stephen King's book that the original was adapted from, so there's a lot of scope for a new original take here. I'm a big fan of Wright, so can't wait to see what he does with this – who else is stoked already for the soundtrack?
Every Paramount Pictures movie coming in 2025

What does the full 2025 movie lineup look like for Paramount Pictures then?
Here's the full list of what's slated to arrive this year:
- Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning
- Smurfs
- The Naked Gun
- Roofman
- Regretting You
- The Running Man
- The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants
Moving on to Walt Disney Studios, what're we likely to hear about later today?
Well, we can certainly expect a mention about the House of Mouse's next big live-action remake. This one's Lilo & Stitch and it's due to be released in cinemas on May 23, 2025. Following the success of Moana, I don't doubt that there will be a lot of buzz around this one, because who doesn't love stories set in Polynesia? Give me more island set movies any day.
Sticking with Disney, the studio has also collaborated with Pixar for the new movie Elio that's due to come out on June 13, 2025. We're also getting a sequel to the 2003 body swapping family comedy Freaky Friday on August 8, 2025, the third installment in the Tron franchise on October 10, 2025, and a sequel to Zootopia.
Guess who's back? It's ya boi, Tom Power, returning for another (and likely final) shift on the ol' CinemaCon live blog.
...Remind me never to introduce myself like that ever again, please and thank you.
Anyway! As Amelia already mentioned, Paramount Pictures and Walt Disney Studios are the final two companies who'll be bringing us movie-based gifts on the fourth and final day of the year's first big entertainment trade show. And, I don't know about you, but there are couple of – how can I put this – Marvel-ous things to keep an eye out for later today.

Amelia has already covered a number of big releases that Disney will, well, release in 2025. But, there are a couple of highly-anticipated Marvel films that she didn't.
First up is Marvel's Thunderbolts* movie, which will storm into theaters on May 1 (UK) and May 2 (everywhere else). We've already been treated to various trailers and TV spots for the final Marvel Phase 5 flick recently, but I'm sure Marvel Studios can squeeze out one more to further whet our appetite for a movie that, according to star Florence Pugh, is "an A24-feeling assassin movie with Marvel superheroes."
If you're after even more fun-filled marketing materials for the eagerly-awaited MCU film, maybe these new character posters, which dropped yesterday (April 2) and poke fun at Microsoft's 'This is an Xbox' promo campaign, will do the trick.
Bucky. #Thunderbolts* pic.twitter.com/tf8JEBNEodApril 2, 2025

Thunderbolts* (don't ask about the asterisks) isn't the only Marvel movie that'll be released this year.
Almost three months later – but just two weeks after James Gunn's Superman movie takes flight – Marvel's First Family, aka The Fantastic Four, will make their long-awaited debut in the MCU. Their first big-screen adventure in a decade, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, arrives on July 25.
As it'll be one of this summer's (or winter's, if you live in the Southern Hemisphere) biggest films, you can be darn sure that Marvel will talk it up during Disney's presentation later today. Would it be too much to ask for another trailer?

Taking a quick break from the Marvel chatter for a second, the first teaser for Five Nights at Freddy's 2 was revealed during Universal Pictures' main presentation last night.
Unfortunately for those who streamed its predecessor on Peacock TV, FNaF 2 will be released exclusively in theaters when it arrives this December. It'll come to the streaming platform eventually, but you'll need to head to your local cinema to watch it on launch day. Hey, I don't make the rules!

Back to Marvel now and the big question on everyone's minds: will the comic book giant give us any more details on Avengers: Doomsday?
I doubt we'll learn anything new about the first Marvel Phase 6 movie. That five-hour-plus livestream, which took place last Wednesday (March 26), revealed the first 27 members of Doomsday's cast. The highly-anticipated superhero film was also confirmed to be in full production at the end of it, too.
My best guess is Marvel chief Kevin Feige will simply repeat what we already know: that it's coming to theaters next May and filming has begun, and then thank the MCU's global fanbase for tuning into the aforementioned live event. I live in hope that there'll be some sort of big Avengers 5 surprise, mind you!

That should be it news-wise on the Marvel movie front, too.
Indeed, Marvel's Spider-Man live-action film partner Sony already revealed more information on Spider-Man 4, which launches in theaters next July, earlier this week. Namely, that it's now called Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Meanwhile, the only other MCU movie with a confirmed release date is Avengers: Secret Wars. That'll arrive in May 2027, but we won't know anything else about it until Doomsday is released in theaters.
Marvel will want to save some major reveals for San Diego Comic-Con and D23 Expo, which take place in July and August respectively. In short: don't be shocked if the comic titan doesn't discuss anything that isn't Thunderbolts, First Steps, or Doomsday-related.
One last thing before I bid you farewell for the final time. The first trailer for M3GAN 2.0, which was shown exclusively to CinemaCon 2025 attendees yesterday, has been released online, so check it out above before Paramount Pictures' presentation begins.
And that's it from me! I leave you in the capable hands of my colleagues for today's main events. Thanks for hanging out with me and catch you all soon!
Hello, hello – it's Matt Bolton, Managing Editor of Entertainment here now to scale the mountain and see what Paramount has for us beyond the horizon.
Spoilers: it's probably Tom Cruise! It's always Tom Cruise.

What are we expecting? Obviously a splashy Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning section with Tom C and lots of ridiculous stunt footage.
We'll probably get our first look at The Running Man, from director Edgar Wright and starring man of the hour Glen Powell.
We'll probably hear something about the franchise that's become the bizarrely shining jewel in Paramount's crown: Sonic the Hedgehog 4. The Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem sequel would be nice to see too.
The somewhat troubled Scream 7 would be a good candidate to get some real information. And speaking of horror sequels, maybe we'll hear about a Smile 3 today.
And, regrettably, we will surely get some new footage of Smurfs.
The single most important #NakedGun movie since the other Naked Gun movies. Only in cinemas this August. pic.twitter.com/LrBqhbOAknApril 3, 2025
We're waiting to get into the meat of Paramount's slate, but that hasn't stopped the reveals happening on Twitter! Here's the first trailer for the new Naked Gun, starring Liam Neeson and Frank Drebin.
Interestingly, it seems to be leaning into Neeson's action heritage with a more action-ready Drebin, though I might suggest that Neeson being a sprightly 72 years old is kind of on display in some of his movements here.
Somehow there are now multiple dirt bikes riding around the stage while the @MissionFilm theme plays! #CinemaCon #CinemaCon2025April 3, 2025
Love to be in an enclosed theater space with multiple stinky dirt bike exhausts.
Paramount's advice to theaters:Limit trailers. No ads. Matinee pricing until 6pm. Daily deals. Discount Tuesdays... Wednesdays... Thursdays.Turn your business upside down.April 3, 2025
I don't normally post about the businessy stuff that gets discussed at these shows, but this one is especially interesting. Instead of following the pack and just thanking movie theaters for their support and insisting that they're vital to the movie experience, Paramount is pushing for some action to help improve the fortunes of movie theaters.
I'm not sure we're going to see the disappearance of ads in the current climate (and I don't want trailers to go – if anything I want more variety of them!), but catching more kids after school with extended matinee discounts and other options could be smart.
I mean, it's kind of pushing towards peak and off-peak pricing by another name, which does happen in some places, and isn't always popular…
Paramount CEO jokes that, inspired by Sony’s BEATLES announcement, Paramount is making a series of four Paw Patrol movies, centered on each pup. He shows a Sgt. Pepper spoof image of the Paw Patrol pups.“You know I’m joking, right? Good.” #CinemaConApril 3, 2025
This was a pretty good joke, except for announcing that it's a joke.
Paramount confirms Sonic 4, Scream 7, and a new comedy from South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker plus Kendrick Lamar (can't wait to find out more about that combination) are all in production now – sounds like we won't hear more about them at this event.
But we will hear about The Running Man, right now!
The first footage of The Running Man was shown by Glen Powell, Colman Domingo and Josh Brolin. It looks like classic Edgar Wright fast-paced energy, with suitably unhinged commentary on the satirical deadly reality show from Domingo.
I feel like this one will live and die on the script – it's got a smart director, charming actors, and timely premise (the book was set in the far future of 2025)…
It's animation time! There is a brief mention of the new Smurfs movie, and the reveal that both the TNMT: Mutant Mayhem sequel and the new animated Avatar: The Last Airbender sequel movie are coming in 2026.
The latter gets an official name, too: The Legend of Aang The Last Airbender, and few extra details.
The upcoming animated 'AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER' film is titled 'THE LEGEND OF AANG: THE LAST AIRBENDER' ▪️ Follows Aang, Katara, Sokka, Zuko, and Toph in their late 20s early 30s▪️ Currently starring Eric Nam, Dave Bautista and Steven Yeun▪️ In theaters January 20, 2026 pic.twitter.com/G2jTJCv4KYApril 3, 2025
Mark Hamill is back for his second CinemaCon appearance, to talk about the new SpongeBob movie. He's reprising his role as the Flying Dutchman, and would like be known as a horrifying villain to a whole new generation of children (having succeeded once with Joker).
You know, Disney's up later, Hamill could make a third appearance…
Tom Kenny is on stage to talk about ‘The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants’. #CinemaConThe film releases in theaters on December 19, 2025. pic.twitter.com/O43bFtYXFZApril 3, 2025
The Naked Gun is up now. We've already seen the teaser trailer, though! It's coming August 1st, and the crowd is getting a better first look at the movie.
Channing Tatum is here to talk Roofman, a crime drama based on the true story of a Army Reserve officer who took to stealing from McDonald's branches by breaking in via the roof.
It also start Kirsten Dunst and Peter Dinklage, and Tatum promises that it'll also be funny, too. It's coming later this year.
Incidentally, I'd like to see Tatum direct again; I thought Dog was really good.
Tom Cruise is here, as inevitably as Knight follows Day. (Little joke for the Cruise-heads there.)
He started his section by paying tribute to Val Kilmer, who passed away on April 1st, and asking for a moment of silence.

Interestingly, Cruise is off-teleprompter for his introduction of The Final Reckoning director Christopher McQuarrie – he's reading from notes. I wonder if McQ was a late addition, or if Cruise just refuses to do anything without an element of excitement.
Cruise is talking about his history with McQuarrie – they met on the movie Valkyrie, and really gelled. McQ came to help fix script problems on Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, including making the Burj Khalifa scene work. They've basically been a movie hive mind since.
Cruise brings up how he's looking forward to see the F1 movie, from the same director as Top Gun: Maverick, partly because he's known Brad Pitt is a great driver ever since they used to race go-karts to blow off steam while filming Interview with the Vampire.
Anyway, he's finally brought Christopher McQuarrie out, because the latter is receiving the Director of the Year award from CinemaCon. They're now sharing more heartwarming banter.
McQ expresses his love for Tom Cruise, and their shared mission to put Cruise’s life on the line for people’s entertainment.Cruise laughs hard at that one. #CinemaConApril 3, 2025
We have, at last, come to a new trailer for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. It keeps leaning into the hints from the earlier trailers that the history of the series is important, and confirms a two-month gap from the previous movie (which I might just go and watch now, actually).
Oh, and there'll be some wild stunts, including the plane hanging we've seen so far (a Cruise standard, at this point) and some terrifying water stuff.
Aaaand… that's it! A very light presentation as they go, considering Paramount's extensive history and slate of films. As Cruise would say, see you at the movies.
"See you at the movies" -Tom Cruise on top of a plane because he's Tom Cruise #MissionImpossible pic.twitter.com/qPnyiFU7l1September 7, 2022
(And by 'the movies', I mean 'back here in a little while for Disney/Marvel/LucasFilm/20th Century Studios' mammoth presenation.)
