(Picture: PA)West End star Carrie Hope Fletcher performing in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s production of Cinderella had “been a ball”.
The curtain came down on the musical after less than a year playing at the Gillian Lynne Theatre.
Fletcher, 29, who stars in the title role, said on Instagram: “From the first workshop, to the first photoshoot, to the final show.
“The last three years on this project have had many highs and lows but overall I’m glad to have stood in Cinderella’s glass slippers (and fun fact…her Kurt Giegers…NOT Doc Martens).
“Everyone in the Gillian Lynne from cast to crew to lighting to sound to wardrobe to dressers to wigs to stage management to front of house…coming to work has been an honour and a privilege.
“Thank you to everyone who has supported this show and this company from beginning to end. It had meant the world to each and every one of us. Bye, Cinders. It’s been a ball.”
The show has had a troubled time in the capital and only last month theatre workers protested after its sudden closure was announced with some cast members saying they read the news on social media or news websites before being told themselves.
Written by The Crown actress Emerald Fennell, Cinderella is described as a “complete reinvention” of the classic fairy tale and is based on an original idea by Fennell.
It has been hit with Covid-19-related disruption since first being workshopped in 2019, before previewing in June 2021 with a reduced audience due to pandemic restrictions.
