There’s nothing quite like the NFL playoffs, for better or worse.
With Joe Burrow’s Cincinnati Bengals and Patrick Mahomes’ Kansas City Chiefs set to square off on Sunday in the AFC Championship game — a rematch of last year’s game, which Cincy won — there’s been no shortage of trash talk from both sides.
That apparently extends to politicians, as well.
Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval issued a very strange proclamation on Friday that, in addition to referring to Arrowhead Stadium as “Burrowhead Stadium” and mocking the fact that Kansas City isn’t located in Kansas, called upon Burrow to take a DNA test to confirm whether or not he is Patrick Mahomes’ father.

OK, then.
Cincinnati’s confidence is understandable, considering Burrow enters this game with a 3-0 career record against Mahomes, including last year’s AFC title game. But this seems a little over the top.
Several Chiefs players have already responded to the “Burrowhead Stadium” moniker, and Pureval may have unwittingly provided the AFC’s No. 1-ranked team with even more bulletin board material as it looks to avenge last season’s heartbreak loss.
Regardless, can we please leave questions of paternity out of future trash-talk statements from public officials?
