Longtime Houston Rockets player and basketball operations staffer Chuck Hayes will soon join the front office of the Golden State Warriors, per HoopsHype’s national NBA insider Michael Scotto.

Known for his defense and high intelligence, Hayes played for the Rockets over parts of seven NBA seasons before retiring in 2016 and taking a player development role in 2017. He’s now 40 years old.

“We value him… his profile and his background is extremely valuable to what we do on the personnel side,” then-vice president Gersson Rosas said six years ago upon Hayes’ initial appointment to Houston’s front office. “He’s a guy who has a different perspective.”

“He’s been in the league for 10 years, understands the game,” Rosas said at the time. “He’s a guy that has known for a long time he wanted to do something in the league after his career was over and prepared accordingly. We see a guy with a lot of talent, a lot of character, and a lot of upside in terms of his role in the front office.”

As of 2023, Houston’s front office staff after general manager Rafael Stone and Eli Witus (executive vice president of basketball operations and assistant general manager) is largely undefined, with numerous staffers on relatively equal footing on the organizational chart.

In alphabetical order and excluding Hayes, names on Houston’s basketball operations staff (below Witus and Stone) curently include Jason Biles, Jeremiah Bonsu, Matt Bullard, Willie Cruz, Jake Flancer, Antwan Floyd, Motoki Fujii, Orhun Güngören, Jeremy Hassler, Ross Homan, Keith Jones, Robbie Keck, Ed Kupfer, Scott Kneller, Julia Long, Anthony Nila, Jim Paulis, Javier Pesquera, Ed Pinckney, Marko Radovanovic, Jason Roman, LJ Rose, Ben Rubin, Alex Santos, Travis Stockbridge, Chris Wallace, Zuri Williams, and Cole Zwicker.
