Today marks Good Friday, and there's no better time to announce which fish and chip shop Chronicle Live readers voted as the region's finest.
On Wednesday, we launched a poll - consisting of 14 options for our readers to pick which chippy is their personal favourite.
We included the cream of the crop with regards to fresh fish and chips across the region, with a number of award-winning establishments in the running.

We included shops from a number of the region's beautiful beaches and seafronts, including Whitley Bay, South Shields, Blyth and Tynemouth - as well as city centre chippies in Sunderland and Newcastle.
And when the results flew in, more than 3,500 of you had your say on which North East establishment takes the title.
So who took home the title as best fish and chip shop across the North East? According to Chronicle Live readers, that would be none other than Pantrini's in Whitley Bay.
The Marine Avenue venue amassed more than 1,000 votes in out poll - making up a little under a third of all of the submissions by you. Happily serving punters with a smile for more than 100 years, award-winning Pantrini's has won over customers with its fresh fish and golden chips.
Founded in 1920 by Attillio Pantrini, the business has been since passed down to daughter Barbara - leaving not only a longstanding legacy for the Pantrini family, but also ensuring that the original recipes still hold true to this day.
Lee Taylor, owner of Pantrini’s said: "As a family we are delighted to have been voted the North East’s favourite fish and chip shop. Being voted for by readers and customers who visit Pantrini’s means so much to us. We have been trading for over 100 years and despite all of the challenges we have never compromised on quality. We use only the best fish and source our potatoes from a local farm in Northumberland.
"The facsoty awards are great, we’ve won it three times, really good for the region and to see 2 other local shops get recognition recently just shows the standard of fish chips we have on our coast is amazing. Votes from our customers and those in our community who enjoy our fish and chips makes us happier than any award, it is genuinely based on their experience and enjoyment of our food, which surprisingly isn’t part of an awards judging process.
"Thank you to our staff, customers and The Chronicle. We will continue to deliver quality fish and chips and provide excellent value to our customers.”
Seaton Sluice's Harbour View finished second, with 615 votes respectively - while Consett's Golden Fish finished third (573 votes). One location which Chronicle Live readers had plenty of praise for in the comments section came in the form of South Shields' Green Lane Fisheries.
One wrote: "You missed out Green Lane Fisheries in South Shields. Beats this lot hands down," while a second, added: "Green Lane South Shields. Best Fish n Chips in the entire world."
A third commented: "Looks like Green Lane, South Shields is the place to go. Out voting others on this comments section by 4/1. I 100% agree. The fish is just outrageously good!! Try it!!"
