Christy Dignam's daughter Kiera carrying on 'musical legacy' by recording famous song

Christy Dignam's daughter Kiera has paid a loving tribute to her dad by carrying on his musical legacy through releasing her version of his famous song 'This Time.'

Aslan frontman Christy, 62, was diagnosed with two rare blood cancers - amyloidosis and multiple myeloma - over 10 years ago. Christy subsequently spent some time in a hospice, after which his family released a statement earlier this year, revealing he was receiving palliative care.

Now Christy's daughter Kiera, herself a talented musician, has shared a recording she made of her dad's beloved song 'This Time.' Kiera said she recorded and released the new version of the song in tribute to her Aslan star dad Christy, and to show her gratitude for the "immense love and support" shown to him.

In a sweet post shared on Facebook, Kiera said: "I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude and share something special with all of you. Recently, my dad mentioned in an interview his wish for me to continue his musical legacy.

"As a tribute to him I have recorded a rendition of 'This Time', a song we've sung together many times over the years. I wanted to share this recording with all of you, you have shown immense love and support throughout his musical career and ongoing battle.

"It is with great pride and gratitude that I share this recording. Thank you for being a part of his journey. Your continued support means the world."

Kiera's version of the song 'This Time' is now also up on Spotify. Earlier this month, Kiera and her husband Darren Morgan also performed an intimate gig at a charity function hosted by celebrity lawyer Gerald Kean.

The event, which is believed to have raised up to €60,000 for charity - €25,000 of which is to be donated to the Dignam family to help with medical bills and other costs as they continue to care for Christy at home.

Other performers that took to the stage on the night included Kodaline frontman Steve Garrigan. In a recent interview with Ryan Tubridy, Christy revealed that his happiest moment of his life was the birth of his daughter Kiera.

He told Tubridy: "The happiest moment I ever had in my life was Kiera being born.

"I will never forget that moment. I remember thinking with Kiera, this person exists after having no identity. She was just a bump on Catherine.

"Then in a nanosecond you would kill everybody in the room if they tried to touch that baby. I remember the love hit me that quickly and suddenly that it nearly knocked me off my feet.

"The was an amazing feeling." Christy also added that after his diagnosis he wanted to prioritise his family.

He said: "When I first got diagnosed, I remember thinking I don't care what car I dove. I didn't care where I lived. I didn't care about Aslan. I didn't care about fame well I never did care about fame. The only thing I cared about was seeing my grandkids for a little bit longer."
