Renowned filmmaker Christopher Nolan is set to embark on his next cinematic journey with a grand adaptation of Homer’s classic epic, “The Odyssey.” Universal Pictures has announced that the highly anticipated film is scheduled to hit theaters on July 17, 2026.

This marks the first time that a rendition of Homer’s timeless saga will be showcased on IMAX film screens, promising audiences a visually stunning and immersive experience.

Nolan, known for his affinity for IMAX technology dating back to his work on “The Dark Knight,” has consistently pushed the boundaries of filmmaking with his use of large format film and high-resolution cameras. For his previous film, “Oppenheimer,” Nolan even spearheaded the development of the first black-and-white IMAX film stock.

While the specifics of the new technology employed for “The Odyssey” have not been disclosed, Nolan has expressed his admiration for the innovative work being done by the IMAX engineering team. He emphasized the importance of continued innovation in the realm of celluloid film, praising the dedication and brilliance of those involved in the process.

This project marks Nolan’s second collaboration with Universal Pictures following the success of “Oppenheimer,” which garnered critical acclaim and commercial success, grossing nearly $1 billion at the box office. The film also earned Nolan his first Oscars, including accolades for best director and best picture.

Amidst ongoing speculation about the plot and casting of “The Odyssey,” Nolan has remained tight-lipped, with numerous rumors circulating in the media. While reports of potential cast members have surfaced, no official confirmations have been made by the studio, adding to the anticipation surrounding this epic cinematic endeavor.
